so i had about 3 gallons of UJ with corn and oats from a smeared spirit run with my new thumper on the stovetop still. mostly heads and hearts, shut down with about a good bit of alc left in thump but tails were coming on...
so i got 3 bags of frozen blueberries, defrosted them, combined my distillate with two bags and refroze one for the thumper. after a week ive removed the berries to their own jar, gonna run it soon with all the berries and enough juice to cover em in the thumper and do a real low and slow run. thumper is insulated now too.
hopefully the maceration added some nice flavor to back up that sweet buttery corn flavor. will report back.
Edit: im thinking add some lemon zest and juice as to make it blueberry lemon

Sounds promising...

Re: smeared UJ blueberry maceration
Yes the family and friends have been all about me doing some flavored spirits so it seems like a worthy experiment.

Re: Smeared uj run, Macerated and redistilled
Ok so heres how it ended up
I stripped what i had left with some wash and blueberries(1 bag frozen and thawed and manhandled) in the thumper, and a bunch of lemon juice and zest.
spirit run
I added the berries from their own jar to some water and hi shots in the thump, higher abv in the thumper imo lets the heads clear out and makes the heart cut more defined so thats why i used some previous late heads, i ran just higher than my usual pot still rate with all the smeared macerated product and fresh low wines in the main boiler diluted to 25 percent.
the heads cut was pretty small, like 2500ml from about 5.5 gals of liquid in main. got about 6L hearts 8l after tempering
lemon was way too strong and blueberry un noticeable. my last heads jar looked purplish just barely in the light, included in the cut. let mellow 2 weeks or so now, its very balanced with nice grain finish.
