Simple Column Build

I am getting used to my pot still, and of course want to build a column for it as well. It will be attached to a standard 16.5 gallon beer keg I have modified for my boiler and will use the 2" connection. I have been scrolling through several million posts looking for the simplest column I cam to start with. Plenty of time for complications later...
Would it be feasible to simple take the appropriate length of column (3-4 ft?) and simply pack it with the appropriate number of pure copper scrub pads to start with?
I figure a couple of you know exactly where to point me for a simple build. Many thanks in advance.
