I've been lurking around for a while, reading, and learning a bit... so I guess I should introduce myself before beginning for ask too many questions.
I'm a retired electrician (Canadian 'Red Seal' journeyman) and volunteer paramedic, and have been dabbling in wine & mead making for about a decade. I recently acquired a still at an estate sale, and a about to begin the latest chapter in my hobby.
As a mead-maker I plan on distilling my mead of course, as well as trying my hand at gin, rum, whisky, and of course some simple 'shine to start off with.
The still I have acquired is a bit of a dual purpose hybrid it seems:
50l electric boiler, 3" pot-still "lyne arm" with shotgun condenser, 24" packed riser (w. 20" copper mesh), a 3x6" defleg, and two 3" sight-glass+bubble plates (1 w cracked glass tube).
It has a 1750w 120v element with an SCR (triac) controller... and yes, I have a better 240v element on order.
Looking forward to the journey!
Doug
