My Offical Howdy!

Post by rabeb2525 »

Just wanted to drop and line and say hi and give some background on me.

I have a beer background (been brewing for about 9 years now, started at 20). Was taught how to "moonshine" about the same time, and have had my still for about 4-5 years now. Not satisfied with shine, and having a beer background I made the logical transition (don't know why it took so long!). I have done a lot of automation to my brewery over the years, and now I mash/brew via a touchscreen computer in the brewery or if I am out and about on my cell phone. With my brewery I am able to reproduce beers to the 10th of a degree. I am just starting to get into grain whiskey's and cuts as the shine my "teachers" are still making is basically uncut. I think I can bring a good technical side to the forum, anything that is beer related I should be able to help out on (have over 700 batches under my belt)and did compete very seriously for a few of those years.

I am in the process of fabricating a lid to my beer boil kettle so I will be able to distill inside, and automate it with the brewery controller. Another nice thing about the controller is that I can datalog the entire session and find exact temps/times. I think that will be neat in trying to perfect this art!

Here are some pictures of the brewery:

Thanks for all the help already....
cheers

Well howdy.

Damn nice set-up. Obviously know what are your doing with beer, and will I suspect you be making fine spirits very soon.

Folks, we have a another technogeek in the room. 8)

What kind of venting you got inside? And automation is fine, as long as you are also right there with the still for the whole run.

Thanks!
Well the brewery is all electric (240v 5500 wAtt elements), so all I have to worry venting is steam. I have a range hood that does a decent job at that. I also have an 8" passive make up air in the opposite corner. Was that what you were asking?
