A device used to measure the precise ABV of an aqueous solution. A common method of using an alcoholmeter is to place it into an eprouvette during the distillation process which provides a method of continually monitoring the proof of the emerging distillate.

Alcoholometers and hydrometers represent some of the more valuable laboratory grade equipment available to the home distiller. Also known as a proof hydrometer.
