Alcoholometer

A device used to measure the precise ABV of an aqueous solution. A common method of using an alcoholmeter is to place it into an eprouvette (aka parrot) during the distillation process which provides a method of continually monitoring the proof of the emerging distillate. It will only be accurate if the solution does not contain any other materials like sugar. Sugar will make the ABV read low.
Alcoholometers and hydrometers represent some of the more valuable laboratory grade equipment available to the home distiller. Also known as a proof hydrometer.
