Steam Coils are part of a steam heating system. Steam is generated in a boiler. The steam then goes through a piping system to a still or mash tun. In the still or mash tun has coiled metal, normally of stainless steel or copper construction. The coils submerged in liquid and will transfer the heat from the steam. Steam heat is considered to be highly effective form of heat transfer. Steam, under normal conditions, is considered safer that direct heat for stills. One advantage that steam heat has over direct electric or gas heat is that it has a very low chance of scotching a wort.
