A lauter tun is a vessel used for created cooked mashes. Generally these are large, stainless steel vessels which are steam jacketed and have rods to agitate the mash. Lauter tuns are used to keep the mash at a consistent steeping temperature to facilitate a maximum amount of starch conversion.
