Many stills, lauter tuns and other distillery vessels are steam heated. This is done by wrapping steam coils around the exterior of the vessel, then attaching an outer metal jacket to protect the steam coils. A boiler is then used to create steam which is fed into the coils to provide consistent and adjustable heat.
