Re: My girls
i have been thinking about being able to adjust my plates mid run.. i know this has all been done before but what i was thinking was instead of the downcomer going straight into a 90 degree bend..have it straight into a T, one side of the tee would exit the column and go into a valve but the other s...

Re: Multi Modular Build
For the record i have not installed the 2"sightglass as i started building something with a few more windows lol. but with my bok slanted plates i have a 1" overlap of the plates and there on a 45 degree angle so it does pool a fair bit, i dont think the splashing is going to make a great ...

Your getting 96% with marbles in a 2" column cool. Iv always considered marbles but always use steel wool packing. At what rate do u collect 96%?

Re: Multi Modular Build
Iv got a nearly 3 inch space between my bok plates on my 3 inch column. Plenty of room to add a 2 inch sight glass later to watch the reflux build up and fall back onto the packIng.

Re: My girls
Man i would kill to use a CNC for this. I reckon there was nearly 4 hours work in drilling those holes. Im hoping small holes works well. I know this isnt even finished yet but i was thinking of building another set of plates maybe bubble plates or valved plates just to see the difference.. i should...

Re: perfofated plate build
So i got my plates started today, got my dad to turn them on his lathe and im really happy with the clearance..they are damn snug inside that column. I marked the holes and went for 1/16 or 1.6 mm holes on a 5mm grid. its about 280 holes each plate. Need to get some more drill bits as i broke 10. Di...
Re: Corn malt
found malting corn fairly easy. I soaked 10kg in a 20L bucket for 2 days, changing the water roughly twice a day, then spread out on a plastic sheet undercover for a week, spraying lightly once a day until roots were about 2.5cm long. I think the drying and distilling are the hardest parts.

Re: My girls
so iv been doing a little maths and i think its right, trying to work out how many holes and placment for my perf plates. not sure if this is right. Area of 1.5mm bit = 1.76mm2 Area of plate = 7854mm2 So 100 holes = 2.24% 200 holes = 4.48% 300 holes = 6.72% 400 holes = 8.96% 500 holes = 11.20% if i ...

Re: My girls
yeah i think i would go for 3/4 tubes next time..way less fiddly.
Bushman i nearly went for a drop in deflag but would have needed another 100mm of pipe, this way i have a 5th plate option.

Re: My girls
Checked my condensors today. My product condensor was fine no leaks, but my reflux condensor had a heap so i spent a bit of time fixing that up. In hindsight i shouldnt have put so many tubes in there. Sat the sightglass flanges on to see what it would look like. Im going to run mostly 4 plates for ...

Got a bit done today. finished my reflux and product condensors except for the water inlet/outlet. The relux condensor is is about 120mm long with 14 1/2 inch tubes....probably overkill i know. Product condensor is 7 1/2 tubes about 350mm long in 3 inch jacket. No polishing yet but let me lmow what ...

Re: straight vs "J" downcomers
Great info right there . So keep the downcomers partly submerged if I go that option. Sungy why did u go with suspended traps then the return bend instead of downcomers into the cup on the plate? Rockchucker that is great thinking a bit more work though. Do u have any pics or plans of how this would...

straight vs "J" downcomers
Hi everyone iv been slowly building a perforated plate column and im tossing up what kind of downcomers to use. Is there any advantage or disadvantage to using all "J" bends. I was thinking this to have more bubbling surface area on the plate. Or do the "J" bends cause splashing ...

i was lucky enough to swap my brother for that 4 inch copper for some stainless pipe i had...it better suited him for his still. But yeah copper prices are insane especially on the hobby scale buying by the meter. I didnt know you could buy by the inch of ebay, might be worth a look.

So i thought id try my hand at smoking some grains to get a nice smokey whiskey.. i smoked 5 kg of unmalted barley over some peat on my bbq for about 45mins, the grains smelt smokey...I mashed with 5kg aussie 2 row and it mashed well, got full conversion but no smokyness come over in the distilate. ...

Hey everyone, i mashed my first all malted corn grain bill tonight, with ok results. I started with 10 kg of whole feed corn and i soaked it it a 20l bucket for a day. after the soaking i put in another bucket with holes drilled in the bottom for drainage. i rinsed with water roughly twice a day for...
