Re: Heating SS with propane
It's been forever since I've posted anything, but the metallurgy discussion caught my eye. Assuming everyone is interested in debate and discussion, I figured I'd add my two cents in what will be an unreasonably long post. Seems there are two distinct issues raised in the thread. First is stainless ...

Re: Howto solder (beginners guide)
Long delay for a reply, but for two of the above questions... To solder stainless, you need to use stainless flux. This is an acid (liquid) that cuts through the chromium oxide passivation layer. McMaster Carr or some other industrial supply place should have it. Do not try doing Oxy-fuel bazing wit...

Re: Finally complete.
Myles, Sorry, I forgot to answer your other questions. I believe the heater core is from a Dodge Dart (FleaBay purchase). The burner is under the cart. I cut a big hole just smaller than the keg lip ID,and mounted the burner underneath. I figure the paint adjacent to the hole will scorch off a bit t...

Re: Finally complete.
Myles: The condenser was built from scratch. 2" Cu tube for the shell, .250" thick brass tubesheets, and 1/4" tubes. I have the luxury of a lathe and some experience with industrial equipment design. Hookline: The condenser is at a 45 to drain the condensate off the tubes more efficie...

Re: Finally complete.
Thanks for the welcome. I haven't run anything through this particular arrangement, but I've done a few other batches in it's prior life. Mostly just sugar washes, but since I live 10 minutes from an apple orchard the last run was some apple brandy. 40 gallons of apple sauce in my garage was fairly ...

Finally complete.
Ive been lurking for a while; thanks to all who've shared their knowledge without actually having to talk to me. After playing around with a couple of very successful - but shoddy and ugly - versions over the past year, I decided to spruce up what has obviously become a proper waste of time. 1. $25 ...
