Re: some pot still questions

What is the difference in run times between say a 2" Brewhaus pot still and the 3" assuming a 5 gallon run?

TIA

Re: Brewhaus Mods

Praire I see that having the extra control with the cooling in the reflux version has to be much better than going strictly with the Liebig version even if only used in pot mode.....maybe they will knock a few bucks off and I'll get an extra hole drilled in the boiler for a 2 element system....thoug...

Re: Brewhaus Mods

One thing I'm worrying over with the 2 piece is the overall height of the assembled piece? I wonder if I could just get the reflux column (I plan on mostly doing pot still type operation anyway) and leave out the column extension, later I could of course upgrade...they say 3' on the column alone so ...

Southern Comfort Recipe

Sorry lost the original article but I saved the recipe from it. I always kind of liked the flavor of SC but thought it was way too sweet. "Heron began with good-quality bourbon and would add: "An inch of vanilla bean, about a quarter of a lemon, half of a cinnamon stick, four cloves, a few...

Sure I think all you really need is starch and malt and or amylase for the conversion, I guess anything would work beans, pasta, vegetables, fruit even nuts you name it.......acorns even and those can be got for free provided you can survive a drunken brawl with the enraged squirrels that is! :) htt...

Re: Spaghetti Pasta

Praire It would sort of be like doing a mash with an unmalted grain and a malt grain or amylase for the conversion, even if the starch content was lower on the pasta than the grain itself it could be brought up higher by boiling off some of the water. Madon to think off all the wonderful potential b...

Ok this is a bit over the top but I wonder what the yield is in convertible starches from say a cooked batch of 1 lb of spaghetti assuming 1 gal of water? heh Imagine if you knew the owner of an Italian Restaurant that does a big business, heck they just pour this down the sink, no? Sounds like a straight rye might take a bit of aging, they say it has a very strong flavor which is why they dont often use it at to high a concentration to make rye beers.

Praire Yea Ill try it sometime :) I know on the beer brewing side it's something of a holy grail to find readily available off the grocery store malts for brewing so these might just do the trick. I think they may have these at A&P as A&P is listed as a sponsor under their products at Amazon.

Maybe barley for the malt would have been better? Not sure but do you get as much diastase from rye malt? Possibly the rye malt shorted you on enzymes? http://morebeer.com/brewingtechniques/library/backissues/issue1.3/hayden.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel=&qu...

Re: Mahing Wash's/Still vs Brew

You still have to strain it either way. Unless you have a still boiler capable of running on the grain. With out scorching it. So either you strain before fermenting. Or after ferment is done. And you would need a bigger fermenter for on the grain. Sure gotcha, I was thinking ferment "on the g...

Mahing Wash's/Still vs Brew

Interesting but on the beer brewing side you dont see much about fermenting "on the grain" as you guys do here. Wouldn't simply fermenting "on the grain" tend to eliminate the need for lauter tun and sparging equipment? Of course you would still need to convert the starches and t...

Are you fermenting on the grain with this?

How much head room do you lose in a 6 gallon bucket with say 10 lb all grain bill if you ferment on the grain?
