Re: Nuclear Whiskey / Nuclear Rum and Spirits Rapid Ageing
Yeah, here's another one I'd be interested in seeing others results. Just nuking with no additions. I tried it with my buddies El Cheapo LTD brand whisky. No additions, just nuked 3 times to ~150F, then sealed in a Mason jar, then cooled to room temp, ~70F. NO metal in the microwave. And it noticeab...

Re: Nuclear Whiskey / Nuclear Rum and Spirits Rapid Ageing
OK, on and off topic, but here goes. Been reading about this for DAYS now. Don't have any of my homemade hooch. Buddy had a handle of some bottom shelf LTD Canadian whiskey. Kinda crappy stuff. He said it gave him a headache after one drink. So, I told him I had an idea that "MIGHT" help, ...

Re: first build, first run!
> If you want a whiskey than you should have just made a simple pot still.. Sure, but when I was just lurking a boka write-up said to the effect "you can just detune your column (or use partial or a lower reflux ratio) to get whiskey in one pass. I thought it would be straight forward (and may...

Re: Is my solder safe?!?!
Well, here's what I found in the MSDS for this solder. Whether or not you feel it is a risk is ultimately up to you. Here it is: Rosin 65997-06-0 NK NE 0.1mg//m3(*4) 0.2 mg/m3(*4) 2.5 1.0-6.0 NOTES:*1-Product formulation is to customer specification and appears on product packaging or packing slip. ...

Re: Materials for Still
Couple of things: That pot is thin and the lid is even thinner. A 3" riser is a lot to put on there, and in my opinion too big. I would go 2". Cheaper all the way around, pipe and fittings. However, if you must, here's a a decent place with lots of fittings, including 3" to 1" re...

Yes, 10 feet of 2" copper pipe for just under $82 with tax. It was on sale at local Menards. Unfortunately, today was last day of the sale. Had I known sooner, would've posted about it. Local Menards would be in Champaign Illinois. Go to menards.com RIGHT NOW and ship to store price is still go...

Starting...slowly.
Step one: Read through these forums for about 2 months. Done. Step two: Buy 10' of 2" copper from Menards for $82 with tax. Done. More S L O W steps to come. Couldn't pass up the sale price at Menards though. Can't buy 5' online for that price. And the 2" is the big cost in the copper depa...

And looks rather unsafe as well. I could find a MUCH better use for one o' them kegs. Having a hard time finding a legal keg for a decent price. I rather doubt either of those are legal either.

I also suggest read read and read some more. When you think you've read enough, you're about 25% there. I suggest a simple pot still to start. Liebig condenser. You can get some reflux out of this setup as well, with a few additions/modifications. The key thing is SAFETY FIRST!!!! NEVER build a &quo...

Re: Here she is. Not sure what to call the design.
That realtime nice boiler. The still looks to be just a pot still. I see no reflux condenser water connections? It's not a quite large pot still. It being a pot still something really concerns me. The spigot on the takeoff. It needs to go. It's a big safety hazard. Where the still could turn into a ...

Howdy all! No still yet, doing my reading/research. So far am looking at electric fired pot still. Interested in rum and other "flavored" spirits. Will do neutral at some point. Was looking at PID controllers, but have recently learned I can't really control the temp of my wash in the stil...
