Re: Anybody get any good deals lately?
I got an open top 55 gallon some years ago and only ever used it once  It's currently being used to catch rainwater. I'm not a fan of 55 gallon ferments in a single container. It is a lot to lose if a ferment gets an infection. You're not wrong. I had two of my 60 gallon ferments turn to vine...

You must not be far from me, I've got a bunch of barrels from them too.kmmuellr wrote:I've got a black barrel from https://www.ghbarrels.com/, $30 delivered to my driveway.
I've dumped boiling water in, then corn, then more boiling water, etc. No problems.

Ended up with it again a few weeks back. Thankfully this time it was just a fever of 103.8 for a week and loss of ability to smell. Back to (mostly) normal and out of quarantine again. May I know please, how long has elapsed between your cases? Cheerups! 15 months between cases for me. I've been lu...

Re: Anyone else got the Wuhan?
Hope all are well. I ended up with the kung flu last year in January. It well and truly put me on my ass and nearly took me out. Everything worked out better in the long run, I got so sick that I accidentally quit smoking, and haven't had an energy drink since either. I never expected to kick either...

Re: What'd ya'll make today?
Nice work Detroit. The yeast were certainly happy today with the higher temps. I plan to run 2 fermenter cycles of uj, two of birdwatchers for neutral, and then hop on the panela. Only being able to ferment 80-90 gallons at a time is kind of a drag

Re: What'd ya'll make today?
For the first time in almost two years my fermenters are bubbling away with some sweet music. Put a batch of uj down. Figured I'd ease back into it with something familiar. Planning to replenish my stock of uj, neutral, try my hand at panela rum, and try to go all grain by the end of the year. Now t...

My fermenters are retired pickle shipping barrels. After years of fermenting and sanitizing over and over, it still smells like pickles. Never carried any scent or flavor over for me though.

Re: Let's see your controller box
Looks much cleaner than mine :D What are you connecting to the box? So many fuses... I still have to run all the 220 from the breakers to contactors and wire the controller and meters in. This operates two 5500w elements. One is a simple on/off the other is controlled with an scr. I have a main pow...

Re: Let's see your controller box
Yes, it requires lid removal. If I'm popping one of those breakers though something fucky is going on and I don't mind popping the lid to inspect. I had considered a hinge top enclosure but just couldn't justify the price jump.

Re: Let's see your controller box
Made a little progress on the controller today. Power, neutral, and ground in are wired to the main breaker, and from it to the terminal blocks. The power outputs are wired to the contactors and grounds. All grounds, case, and component have good continuity to ground. Power from terminal blocks to b...

Re: Let's see your controller box
I would use a solderless crimp connector personally but it should work fine. Test it with boiling water afterwards to verify proper function. Edit to add: I'm not an EE buy any means and am also just knowledgeable enough to get in trouble. I'm just slapping my controller together with what I have la...
