Re: 4" stripping column

I have not forgotten about this project! Work and life has taken up almost all of my time, but I will be working on this again now. I have been able to do a couple of things the last two months. I have the boiler overflow setup with triclamp, 1/2" full bore ball valve, all stainless steel fitti...

Re: 4" stripping column

Just waiting for the last part to show up that I ordered (thermocouple for my boiler) My pump is almost build, thought I’d have it done by now but have not had much time lately. Also need to pick up another part  If this build works well then I might look at a PID to control a constant feed te...

Re: Glass Marbles for Reflux Column Structured Packing

The marbles are very easy to clean, the column is awkward to put on/off the boiler. So I kept it on the boiler all summer, I just ran water down the column after each run to clean it out. I kept the still covered with two sheets sewn end to end. That way it would still be able to breath as...

Re: 4" stripping column

I have received my order this week with parts that I needed. The data loggers did not want to work with my laptop, but was able to get them working by the end of the night. I have made the 2" section with ferrules that will feed the wash. Just need to add the 1/2" npt so I can ad...

Re: 4" stripping column

So I realized that the 4 channel thermocouple data logger I ordered was not able to connect or export the data to the computer. but was able to cancel the order. I found a True RMS meter that will link to the computer and data log 91ck+3sb-iL._SL1500_.jpg https://www.amazon.com/gp/produc...

Re: 4" stripping column

Yes this does look like the one from the parent site, my understanding was that having the preheated wash fed into the top resulted in lower ABV then expected. if this is not the case, I can also try that setup. I already cut the holes in the boiler for 3 1-1/2 ferrules and dropped it off at...

Re: 4" stripping column

I am ordering some stuff for the build, the thermocouple will be used with a data logger that can record 4 probes, this way i could have temp readings in different places and have the data recorded for review. I am still trying to find a good setup for a flow meter, if anyone has subjection id be ha...

Re: Feints run,,,first one.

If your rerunning the heads and tails from a reflux run on the t500, your probably not going to get much depending on the cuts you did the first time. I did it the first year that I started and did not keep anything from that run.

Re: 2" boka head + 4" column

I can get the 1/2 for the same price as the 3/8. But with the 1/2 I have the parts. I'd have to get fittings for the 3/8.

As I don't have any 1/2" needle valve I am not sure if i would loose too much control or not.

Re: 2" boka head + 4" column

If it can't handle full power I might just build a 4" boka :)

Any thoughts on the 1/2"npt needle valve? The 1/2 thread works well for me. Any down side to going that big?

2" boka head + 4" column

any reason why a 2" boka head on a 4" column would not work? planning on running it at full power (5500w) the coil is ~10" long double wound 1/4" od with good flow. i also (assuming this all should work) plan on having a 3/8" od takeoff and a 1/2" npt stainless steel ne...

Welcome fellow Canadian, before you buy a still there are many plans for building. If I could start over that's what I would have done.

If it has any adhesive then it is not useable, simple as that. No one here is going to say otherwise.

Re: Glass Marbles for Reflux Column Structured Packing

well i have not even had a chance to think about doing test with marbles. i am now home for a day after being gone for 8 days and have a shit ton of birdwatchers to run (150l of wash to strip ~3 stripping runs as well as 70l of low wines). started well, cold column at the start ups the abv to 90% an...

Re: Marbles vs ss scrubbers for packing

I made an excel sheet to enter my data. it will do some calculations for me once I start my runs (next week when I get home). once I can find say 2 more sizes of marbles (I already have 14mm) and I run them at different power levels and then in different size column. The variables for each run that ...

Re: Glass Marbles for Reflux Column Structured Packing

Well I’m getting prepared to do an experiment with marbles. I will be testing the effects of: different size marbles, at different to power inputs, to column sizes. I currently have 14mm marbles from hobby lobby and am looking for places online to buy other sizes (online would be the best as long as...

Re: Marbles vs ss scrubbers for packing

From my research it seems that marbles can handle much more power than scrubbers. (I can’t confirm this because I have never use stainless steel scrubbers) My 2” column with 14mm marbles can handle 2825 watts, anymore and it would flood. If we scale that to a 4” column then it should handle 11,300 w...
