Re: spirit clouds at bottom
Hi guys/girls. Got to say still_stirring was bang on. I made cleaner cuts at the tails end and all sorted. Clear as a good diamond. Someone mentioned heads. I didn't make any changed to the heads cuts. I hate the heads so most likely go deeper than I need. I am a whiskey drinker so tails are my down...

I do have some whiskey in oak chips since November. Thanks for your help. will give the cuts a go by trying a bottl...

Re: Double distill/refux/ reflux as pot.
The boka is good for neutral spirits. The potstill is good for flavor. So, the best tool for the job depends on what the job is. A sweetfeed (corn and barley with molasses) is a full flavored mash, so it seems the best tool would be the potstill, or an alembic. If you're aiming for a high proof cle...

Double distill/refux/ reflux as pot.
Hi guys. I finely got a product from my mash (basic cornmeal, dry fruit mix molasses etc .) Double distilling in my pot then carbon filter gives me a reasonable result I am happy to drink. May not be the best yet but I will work on that after I have this sorted. I should have my boka set up end of t...

Re: New to the forums
Hi from UK. It's not the easiest forum to mingy into. I am also new and recommend you read more than you write or get your fingers burnt. There is more "straight" info here than anywhere. I was half way through building something that wasn't going to work as I thought. I now have a still w...

Re: propane burner advice
I guess UK residents don't use such powerful burners. I have found lots of cheap Chinese 7kw burners but only one dealer with a 3 ring 11kw. I might just go for that and do the car mount for it. Thanks for the link.
With so much heat all centred on the pan doesn't it burn.

Re: propane burner advice
I am really struggling with this one. Living in the uk puts another $100+ on shipping. Biggest burner I could find is 11kw. Trying to understand kw & btu is making me drink more of my stock. Electric means I would have to change my RCD on fuse box. I plan to brew in garden as misses is OCD. Have...

Re: coldfinger coil advice
Thanks for clearing that up guys. And a bigger pot is on the cards as well as a propane burner. Been looking for a SS keg but not found what I'm after yet. And I also need to see how fast or should this column produce. My pot is slooooow.Deerhunter wrote:Get yourself a bigger pot. You won't regret it.

coldfinger coil advice
Hi all. I am pretty new to distilling but handy at DIY. Dont tell the misses. I have started a column build. 2" 4ft high on 5 gallon pot. The short column is short cos ceiling high and I am aware of drawbacks. Ok so I finely got the salt out the 7 inch 8mm coil. Coil was a work of art until it ...

Re: Completely new to all of this
Hi and welcome. I am also new here and only been distilling a short time. Do you plan to build a huge column straight off or start small. The first thing I noticed as a first time distiller is to do things safe and get a drinkable produce takes time. I can just about manage to produce enough for mys...

Re: hello from UK
Welcome Thatstink! I run a pot still with a USA 14 gallon pot, aprox 52 liters and that goes to a 36" liebig condenser and I run it on a outdoor propane burner. I also do 25 liter ferments and when I am stripping them I can strip mine in about 1 to 1.5 hours. When I do a 25 liter spirit run I ...

Re: hello from UK
Hey Stinky, welcome in. how quick are you running now? Running too quick can be a bad thing too. Hi . 5-6 hrs from start to finish on 12.5l. I make a 25l mash and because of some confusion between USA gallon and UK gallon ended up with a pot that holds 20l to brim so at best I can run 17l. Either w...
