Re: Cloudy Gin newbie
My guess: It isn’t filtered so it retains all of its essential oils. When the gin is mixed with ice or tonic, the oil solubility decreases, turning the liquid a cloudy white.

Help! Cleaning heavy tarnish from inside of copper still after long improper storage
You could try 5-5-1 solution: 500 mL distilled water 50 mL Hydrogen Peroxide 5 g citric acid (basically a couple teaspoons) scale up to a bin large enough for each piece to completely submerge. Or maybe in a spray bottle for the larger stuff??? Good luck! Duck I’ve used this to clean an immersion c...

I’ve seen too many horror photos of huge lacerations from shards of carboy glass. I recommend stainless.

The ph was dropped to 4.0 as this is what the AMG enzyme calls for. You'll get plenty of responses regarding OG, yeast nutrients, and pH buffering. What I'm curious about is the role those "AMG enzymes" play in a sugar wash ? There's nothing to convert so what were you expecting them to d...

Nice StillerBoy! Thanks for the advice! I should know better than to not proof, not hydrate, etc. But sometimes I just say WTF and move on! I guess it comes from not having a fermenter full of ridiculously expensive honey or malt extract. :) Although that's no excuse. I got lucky that this didn't t...

If you do go with VM, include a way to cap the top to run it as a pot. Best of both worlds.

There’s the issue: “...200 gallons ...a week. Some of it was ready for sale...”

I would add, stick to a personal hobby scale.

I was in the local home brew store today getting some brewery wash. I noticed a LOT of flaked corn and rye for sale but not a lot of malted barley. I also noticed the DADY and turbo on the shelves among the various beer yeasts. Hmmmm.

Bobby at Brew Hardware has all kinds of stuff and he can fabricate for you you if you need a one off. I’ve bought a lot from him and he is good people.
Jaybird at NorCal can do the same thing. He makes a lot of specialty custom stainless stuff.

Funny because I never even knew that induction needs to be magnetic, I was just give a frypan from someone as they couldn't use it in their house because its aluminium but we have gas. Guess I was just lucky the pot works. I would have been spewing it they hadn't worked together!!! It’s either not ...

Re: Pot Still Vapor Temperature
The boiling temperature of a wash/wort is constantly changing and it always goes up. Because of this the power input is always going down. To overcome this, the user has to keep increasing the temperature set point to keep the same vapor production rate. ^^^^ Exactly. ^^^^ This works like a charm. ...

Re: Pot Still Vapor Temperature

A heating element converts electrical energy into heat through the process of resistive (otherwise known as Joule heating). The electric current passing through the element encounters res...

Re: Pot Still Vapor Temperature
That depends on where your temp probe is. If it’s installed at a location to sense the temp of the liquid in the pot you can absolutely control the temp of that liquid at any set point, boiling or otherwise. Not of you want it to boil, as it will only boil at one temperature until you start taking ...

Pot Still Vapor Temperature
Physics? A pot of liquid doesn’t care how the heating energy is applied. Whether that’s with a wood fire, propane, an induction cooktop, electric stove, or water heater element inside the pot. A temperature output device registers temperature regardless of whether that temp is provided by a mercury ...

Spoken like a PID user. Love ‘em for precision process controls. .... In pot distillation you can control power input and therefore vapor speed. But you cannot control the temperature of the boil ... ? That depends on where your temp probe is. If it’s installed at a location to sense the temp of th...
