i am thinking about making a sugar beat mash, are there any special considerations to take with regards to this? i would like to use the turbo yeast 8kg (18%-20%) but they suggest the use of pure sugar - which is too expensive! any advice tips would be apricated - have read most of the website seems to be nothing on the humble sugar beat!
many thanks,
max

I've tried sugar beet last winter, but it was no succes. Unless you like schnaps wich tastes like clay...
My tip would be: clean the beets thoroghly. Other experiences are posted in my posts about beets.
Btw, i found the yield dissappointing..
So..... maybe it isn't at all that beneficial to use beets instead of sugar. Given the fact that sugar is 100 % sugar and beets 16-20 at max.
I wish you more luck than I had on the beets.

Ah shame about the beats! seems a pack of slightly less powerful yeast is about £1.30GPS for a 25L wash at 14% so thats at maximum yield 3.5L of distilate. over here 1L of vodka is £10 so thats £35. 6kg of sugar is £2.19. total wash cost then is about £3.50. i guess sugar costs more in the UK! maybe i will scrap the beats, shame!
