Not much of a drinker, but I like the challenge of making alcohol taste good. A friend of mine is into home brewing and makes interesting brews that are very different from the norm using things like chocolate as a mash, etc. I would like to see what I can create. I want to try a "rum" based on maple syrup and I want to try the castor oil method of separating ethanol from water just because if it works ethanol becomes a viable fuel anyone can make in their backyard.(NASA tech notes not pulling up, so I will not add the URL here. Castor oil floats on top of water/mash and ethanol passes into it and evaporates without the water vapor). I would like to try things like using different types of hardwoods besides oak to see how they affect flavor etc in wines. In short I guess I like to tinker and experiment.
I like the idea of a forum where there are more advanced experts that can immediately see something wrong and warn me and save a few painful lessons along the way. I am in the heart of the USA in the rockies, and enjoy backpacking quite a bit. I have some background in chemistry and thermodynamics etc having a degree in engineering but now days make a living as an artist and musician.
