stripping

Post by tryingitout »

I decided to move my post of Stripping from My First to here, because it isn’t my first anymore. (hope that was ok)I was having a problem with huffing, and I got some good advise from vicrider and WalkingWolf to move the water inlet to the bottom of my liebig and it should stop the huffing. Well I did a stripping run on my first of two all bran and I still had a couple problems. (I didn’t add any packing to the liebig) . I still had some huffing, and I had the water turned down so low that the slightest movement of the valve I got vapor or huffing . I only used 7 gallons of water in 1 hour and 45 min. on a stripping run. I will try packing in the next run if that doesn’t work than I am going to have to change out the ½ gate valve because there isn’t enough adjustment in it. This time I collected all the way down to 20% and I got 4 liters of 50% again. So I am up to 8 liters low wine now. The last all bran I plan to run slow to collect the harts, and add the rest to the low wines for a sprit run. Thanks for everyone’s help.

I don't understand the huffing TIO. My stovetop runs with a liebig half the length of what you got and the only huffing I get is on heat up if I drive it hard right up to the boil it'll huff and quit when I turn it down. I have no water flow control. Use a $20 ornamental pond pump from Lowe's and a 25 gallon tub on the countertop next to the stove. I ran for a little over 3 hours this evening and the water got warm but not hot by any means. No huffing as I ran slow. I have no turbulator in the vapor path or the collant path.

I was told to run the output water hot, so it was about 140f. That was nice it gave me hot water to clean everything up with. But 1/16” to 1/8” turn of the valve went from huffing to vapor if I could get it between it was ok. With the changing vapor temps it wanted to huff or blow vapor. Like I said I only used 7 gallons in 1 hour 45 min. on a full out strip run.

Sounds like you are gettin there TIO. Every setup is different and takes some trial and error to get lined out. Thats just part of the fun.

Also, you will want to play with the heat input at the same time. When you get close with the water valve, try cutting back on the heat just a hair and see if that stops the huffing. It may or may not, but you won't know till you try.
