xx Not Sure xx
My first distillation , I taste and all good at the start until I notice a plastic taste in my mouth, I am new to this whole distilled water thing. I know I need to buy a glass jug, is it not safe for me to use the plastic? I am getting worried now.

Re: xx Not Sure xx
Wow..I hope you arent a troll, but here goes:
NO PLASTIC, EVER!
You said you are distilling water (and I really hope you are) but you can taste plastic. IF you are distilling alcohol and you can taste plastic, STOP immediately and dump it down the sink. Read some more and then review your still design for problems.
Do not save any of what you made. Dont be tempted to drink it. Just get rid of it.
'When in doubt, throw it out."
Now if you are truly only distilling water, then what you are smelling/tasting is the heated plastic because your distilled water is warming up the plastic.
You have to wonder how good it can be for you if it releases tastes into water. Either way its not worth it and will only lead to problems.
Ditch the plastic as fast as you can.
I cant stress enough that you need to READ SOME MORE.
You have to have a solid understanding of this before you start.
Otherwise people get hurt.
I suggest the novice forum, then the main page and then read the forums for a few weeks.

Come one guys if this is a real post he needs some help before he gets hurt. If this is a BS post and he's a troll, then he's getting the exact reaction he wanted,( a personal attack). I'm leaning toward BS and I'm not going to play into it.
PW I think you got some good advice and a good place to start. Do some reading, stay safe, and good luck.

+++1. Yeah, trolling the boards will only get you verbally attacked...
Go to the Welcome Center of the site and introduce yourself, giving us a some details of where your at in your stillin, water or alcohol.
If it is alcohol then WalkingWolf and ScottishBoys advice should be adhered to.
If help was what you sought, then you will be given more than you ever knew existed here on HD,
but polite etiquette will place you on the correct path...
I'm done...

Re: xx Not Sure xx
The thing is with guys coming on hear looking for attention,(trolling) when we all overreact they get exactly what they where after.
It's the same thing over and over someone comes in puts up a post like this then he gets the answer he deserves. Then he shoots back with smart ass comment and it's game on. Eventually a newer member will post up something like, You sir are a idiot, and then Blank comes in a locks the thread. At that point we come off looking like a bunch of morons and the troll get what he was after all along.
So ya I like reading trolls the riot act, it's a hell of a lot of fun but all we're doing is encouraging more of the same and causing the mods a lot of work.
And ya I'm expected to be nice now. Don't let the blue shirt fool ya I'm still a rabble rouser.

Re: xx Not Sure xx
Clearly s/he doesn't know much cos we distill alcohol, not water. The second water distiller we've had in the last few weeks.

Simple potstiller. Slow, single run.
(50 litre, propane heated pot still. Coil in bucket condenser - No thermometer, No carbon)
The Reading Lounge AND the Rules We Live By should be compulsory reading
Cumudgeon and loving it.
