first run smells like hell, can i fix it?
My friend decided to ferment some raw sugar before reading anything. he did so in 3 separate 5 gallon buckets, they did not smell so good. I am sure we used way too much sugar than needed. we distilled the mixture getting a good flow at a starting temp of 200F and we stopped when we reach 210F. The nasty smell from the fermentation carried over into the distilled product. Can we filter this out this nastiness?

Not worth the bullshit of screwing around with the crappy product. Look in the recipe section, there are several for folks just getting started. Run you off a batch of good liquor and all will be good.

Consider it a cleaning run and call it a day, then go to the tried and true section and work on a 7-10% ABV and go from there.
I was going to ask if you cleaned the still first, but Im thinkin it would be better if you just started over. Sometimes no amount of carbon filtering, redistilling, carbonate or well wishes will make crap anything other than crap...
But juts think of how satisfied you will be when you make a nice run!

Listen to what these fine fellows are telling you. Go to tried and true recipes and run kind of slow make good cuts and you will be very pleased.. you should start pulling product at about 165f - 170f then go up from there. sounds like maybe your first was did not finish fermenting also..
Tried and True you cant go wrong there..

So true, you will spend a lot of time, and not get the results you want. I have tried, with frustrating results.Sometimes no amount of carbon filtering, redistilling, carbonate or well wishes will make crap anything other than crap...

I have ran shit, filtered ran, filtered ran....Three times, with the best cuts, running slow as humanly possible. And there wasnt a drip, not even a drip, that i would share with a friend. I could tolerate it mixed with orange juice, but i knew the taste, and it haunted me. Learn from us, dont waste yer time.
