Live in a country where self defence is rarely needed. The concept "self defence" is hardly even heard of.

Well I have had a bit of self defence training but I have a fighting axe and a purpose made survival tool (sort of like a short heavy machette).

To set the scene - me naked standing in the hallway in the nude screaming as loud as I can with a fighting axe in one hand and survival tool in the other advancing on who ever is in the house. Basically going at them 100% but giving them the chance to get out of the house if tha makes sense?

Physiological warfare basically, I am counting on the fact that they will be keen to get the F***k out of the house ASAP. If they don't it's going to get messy.

Wife on the phone in the other room to the police.

I guess having 14 pits does have benefits
Other than the 5# a day dog food bill./
That and the fact that most people who come to the hi=ouse will after about an hour of being here say "how many dogs do you have"
Un-obtrusive yet VERY protective

Next to my bed is a pick handle (about 3 ft long with a big head) and a 12 ga pump (no plug) 7 rds. Cocking that thing does send a message to anyone that knows. On the dresser next to the bedroom door is a Colt 1911 in 45ACP and a Ruger 22. If I'm in the basement there are too many deadly inpliments to mention. Ya ever throw a circular saw blade and stick in into wood? Like a ninja star!.

within the op's perameters, my most recent additions are golf shafts bought at a second hand store. they sell both titanium, and carbon fiber clubs for half a dollar. i cut the head off leaving the titanium ferrel long, v-notched to 4 long points, sharpened, good for walking stick on ice, unbreakable, light, fast, fairly inocuous. but then because i don't live downunda i participate in the american problem. cob

On the other end I think my tec 9, ak47 many 12, 16, 20 and 410 guage shotguns and various hand guns of couse.. Glock, sig, SW...
I love my protection.. funny though you know I have never had to use any of it :D . Of course I do live in a very small community and everybody knows everybody. somebody screws with one they screw with all... I like that thought :D

I think it's a lot easier to play defense on this one than offense. Make somebody else's house look like an easier mark with more to steal, and you're probably golden.

That said, I took a look at my keyring today when I picked up my truck from the shop. I do not have any housekeys on my rings. I don't believe we've locked the doors in two years at this point, and we have been on vacation for no less than eleven weeks during that time. Location plays a part.

I guess my house looks like it's in the bottom 50%, with more lights than most, up a long driveway with signs about the dogs, and it's dark outside and whatnot.

Popcorn Fan you must be a decendent of the Vikings. The Berserkers as they were called (or berserks) were Norse warriors who are reported in the Old Norse literature to have fought in a nearly uncontrollable, trance-like fury, a characteristic which later gave rise to the English word berserk. Berserkers are attested in numerous Old Norse sources. Most historians believe that berserkers worked themselves into a rage before battle, but some think that they might have consumed drugged foods. In one book I have it is said that they would be in such a rage that they would strip completely nude and attack.

I am a big believer in Physiological warfare, if you look like a victim and look all meak and tender people will mess with you. If you look like the baddest mother on earth 95% of people are going to walk away. The other 5 percent are the problem :) Still if you can eleminate 95% of people you are there.

I was at the motor vehicle regestry about 12 -18 months ago, 40 - 50 people in there this fella with a shaved head, tatoos on his face (prison tatoos) ear rings, just looked like a bad bugger started yelling and swearing really badly. Room went quite - he was sick of waiting for 40 mins and he was not happy. He was mid 30s I suppose.

I thought F***K looked around, dead silence no-one out of the 50 people said a word all looking at the ground except a removalist fella, he was about 50 and over weight with his wife and kid. He told him to watch his language as there were women and children there.

Tatoo fella goes over and starts yelling at him, gets in his face and shoves old fella into counter. I am looking around thinking this is great. I am sitting there in uniform so I have to do something I suppose.

I walk over don't say a word, on a 45% angle thinking I am going to have to take him down to the ground, don't want a standup fight. As I come up on him I move to the front so he sees me. He takes about three steps back and gets ready to go for me but pauses ( I think the uniform gave him a minute to pause).

I asked the women behind the counter if there was security, she told me she was on the phone to the police. I kept talking to her and was watching but ignoring MR Angry. He stood there visably agitated and not happy. He then directed a few choice words at me and took a step forward, I played cool and kept talking to the woman behind the counter. He abused the crap out of me, backed up and grabbed his daughter and walked towards the door, paused walked back and abused me again then turned walked off and kicked a glass door.

Not one person got up to step up and give me a hand or offer a presence, the fella at the counter came over and said thanks. Then I went back to my seat - a smoking hot girl about 18 with an awsome rack came over and sat beside me ( I am 39) and I felt pretty good :) Exchanged plesentries and she said "good on you for doing something" (if I wasn't married I would have been asking her for a drink later that night even though I would have had no chance) a fella came over and said if it had of kicked off he would have stepped in (sure thanks for that - could have stepped in when I did)

Told the fella to be careful when he went out to car and keep an eye out for him, he told me he was waiting for the police to arrive, gave him my details and left.

A lot of time stuff can be resolved by messing with the other persons mind. i.e naked man in a hallway with an axe and heavy knife :) equals get the hell out of the house fast.

Same as the sound of someone racking a shotgun :)

bones are harder than one may think to break.. i hear alota people say " if that dog was to attack me,,, id just break its neck"..
i break dogs necks every day and its a pain in the ass. cats and smaller animals are a bit easier. the easiest bones to break are ribs. once you split the sternam, you can just fold a ribcage back.
i still believe that it would be easier to punch a feller in the throat. not only they wouldent raise their arms,,, they wouldent raise their body. people tend to freak out when they cant breathe.

i work in a diagnostic lab (animals). i work in a necropsy room. as far as breaking necks, in order to get the brain out of an animal, you cut all the way around the neck, and if its a small animal (dog, cat, and that size) once youve exposed vertebrae, you apply presure. alot of presure,, then remove head. then i take a skull saw, cut a circle all the way around the skull and then remove the brain.
bigger animals (cows, horses) take a little more workin.
