Working on a Moonshine article, anyone willing to chat?
Good afternoon all,
My name is Nathan Mattise and I'm a multimedia producer with Barcode Magazine, an iPad-based publication focused as a gentleman's guide to drinking in style (here's the prototype we had for June, first real issue is in August: http://issuu.com/barcode_mag/docs/barco ... nalversion_" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow ).
I'm currently working on an article for our August issue on moonshine, the current state of it, the debate surrounding legalizing it and also who the modern day moonshiners are. I've talked with Max Watman (just authored a bestselling book on moonshine) and have a chat with Sky Sutton lined up as well. The last aspect of our initial focus - who the modern day moonshiners are - is what gives us our biggest challenges. Due to the illegality of even the most reputable of home distilling, most of our local contacts (we're located in Upstate New York) are hesitant to talk to us at all, even with the full promise of anonymity and no video / photo content (which we'd love to do and found good examples that keep anonymity by the way, like this GOOD Magazine piece: http://www.good.is/post/is-it-time-to-l ... moonshine/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow).
Anyway, I'm coming to these forums after advice from Watman. I was wondering if anyone who considers themselves a knowledgeable authority on moonshine (*and practices home distilling) would be willing to chat with us on the subject. We would gladly adhere to whatever anonymity guidelines were agreed upon and could share drafts of the piece in advance as proof.
Please let me know if you might be interested in helping us out. My forum name is BarcodeNate and I can also be reached at 773-850-1590 or natemattise@gmail.com.
Thanks,
-Nate

This post was chatted about, a bit between the mods, before we OK'd it.
Everyone, just remember to be SAFE if you do end up contacting this person
We would recommend either posting in public or using the PM function. Remember, there is little true privacy on the internet, so chatters beware and be careful.

Don't see why the bulk of any questions couldn't be discussed on the forums? Why would a 1 on 1 be that important?

The esteemed Mr Hookline has suggested I offer my services as a forwarding agent to Nathan if anyone is more comfortable doing that. Happy to do it via pm or email if that would assist any stateside distillers who want to pipe up and keep another layel of anonymity between them and the media.
