Hi from Oz

Post by darcy »

Hi all,

Newby from Oz here.

I stumbled onto the forum while doing some pre-purchase research, and haven't stopped reading for the last few days!

The father-in-law runs a couple of Turbo500s and I was thinking of getting one, but decided to see what the interwebs could tell me first.
Turns out it's probably not what I really want, as I'd love to make more then just neutrals.

I have also fallen in love with some of the beautiful flutes I've seen on this site!
Unfortunatly for me ,my fabrication skills are unlikly to be upto the task of creating one of the beauties. Some welding, brazing, soldering and even machining is ok, but the whole column looks a little daunting.

I'm planning on putting a spare 50l keg that has been hanging around for years to good use as a boiler, and probably lpg (propane) heat it.

I may end up buying a hillbilly flute, haven't enquired yet if they would make it through Australian customs?
If there are any other members out there that would take on a flute build for me I would love to hear from you....

For now, I'll keep reading and learning, the level of knowledge a community like this has as a group is amazing, and moreso that so many are happy to share!

Cheers

Welcome to the forum, you have hit the mother load here. I too have a similar background in that my son-in-law built a still that got me interested and through research I found this site before I built. Now my son-in-law no longer uses his because he found the design not to be the best. As far as a flute build you will not go wrong with a hillbilly still. Not sure he ships to OZ but you do have a great builder in your neck of the woods and you can search his work in OD. Not sure he is still building as his arthritis is bothering him but may have an extra on hand. Anyway it is worth checking out.

Welcome to HD darcy. If you have an eye for the flute you should get in touch with OldDog. The flute design is his brainchild and, as luck would have it, is located right there in Oz.

best of luck
