Vodka mash
Hi, I'm really new to this stuff and am having some trouble finding a good mash recipe and a good way to do it. I keep reading about different temps and using barley, not to use barley. What wheat to use, horse feed, flaked wheat. I just bought a 6qt pot still online and have a 5 gallon bucket with air lock to ferment in. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Any type from any country is fine with me I just want to make some decent vodka. Do you have any recipes I can try?

Use the search function. There is a great wheat vodka recipe around by Ian Smiley. Grain style vodka = Russian, potato style vodka = Polish.

Re: Vodka mash
I would suggest you start out with a simple sugar wash before trying grain mashes. You can make some very nice "vodkas" from sugar washes without adding all the complexity of grain mashes.
I use a version of Rad's All Bran and can't imagine getting a better vodka than mine (to my taste, anyway). Look for it in the "Tried & True" section. It is a long thread which has several people's experiences, experiments and modifications.

The birdwatchers recipe in the Tried and True is also a good one.

Welcome to the forum Kouba71...
All great advice as usual from the guy's... I would however learn to make a sugar-head vodka before going onto mashing your own grain...
Have fun but do it safely man...

I've used Rads all bran and Birdwatchers and they are both very easy and foolproof, they also make a very clean neutral through my VM head.

Re: Vodka mash
I would recommend the all bran recipe. It's easy and great to learn with. And with your still it mite be a good way to start.
But I noticed you bought a pot still. You do know a pot still is not the best still to make a vodka with right? A pot still is better suited for flavored spirits like whiskey rum and brandys. You will need to run it through that pot still 3 maybe 4 times to get something close to a vodka. Diluting to 40% every time. Stripping a couple of washes first would be even better. And you still mite not be happy with it. I'm not saying it can't be done. I'm saying you need to do some research on making vodka with a pot still.
And sticking to one of the tried and true recipes from this forum. Will make it easier to get help if something were to mess up.
Good luck be safe.
