Little or nothing to do with distillation.

does it work like this?

Post by junkyard dawg »

So, I'm here at home and I am supposed to be making some Pizza dough... trouble is I don't have bakers yeast. (rare)

so, I tried pitching some distillers yeast. It proofs in water, but doesn't seem to like the sponge. Bakers yeast would have been blowing up by now, but this is not doing much at all...

So, I threw some red star premier cuvee on it... we'll see.

Any one ever bake with wine or distillers yeast?

the grocery is 28 miles away...

sometimes I love that.... :wtf:

Let us know what happens, I've always wanted to try baking a bread with turbo yeast just to see what would happen.

I read a few years ago that the bread industry was working on a baker's yeast derived from the sherry yeast strain. Do you have any bottle conditioned beer on hand?

Well, time out...

The yeast started, but quickly faded.

I still think we are going to have a good dinner outta this, but it sure ain't workhorse bakers yeast!

Ya gota love this forum, Mr. Brown says add an olive, I love it, and Washashores idea of turbo yeast in bread gives me a great idea for turbo biscuits & gravy for breakfast in the morning, sounds like the breakfast of champions to me. :D :D :D

Gotta do something with those turbo yeasts that everyone keeps getting coerced into buying :ewink:
