Wow, everyone should view this. thanks rgarry. about ten years ago I unfortunately got a dui. I did not blow, I only did one test. He asked me to recite the first ten letters of the alphabet alternating with numbers one to ten, as in a1 b2 c3 etc. He then asked me to stand on one leg at which point I refused. Arrested. I asked my lawyer what to do in the future if pulled over and he said, shut the car off, open the window, put the keys on the dash and just breathe.

They do ... and the laws are quite real. A US vessel is subject to US jurisdiction, whether in territorial waters, the contiguous zone or in international waters. The same applies to stateless (or assimilated stateless) vessels. So there really wasn't anything to get around.

Regardless, the point was that law enforcement knows that it's in the nature of many people (perhaps most) to submit to an unwarranted search ... even something as absurd as drilling holes in the deck ... so we would all be doing ourselves a favor if we learn (read: "prepare") how to politely say, "no" ... if we plan on carrying any hooch in the trunk.

no matter where in the world it is,
that applies to all countries around the planet, international,
and if the vessel is stateless then pirating it is legal with your letter of mark,

By the time it took me to get to the counter ... an ugly little female took over. And DID she make me feel not welcome? Oh yes, she did. I felt like a criminal just entering the US of A.

Me? Yeah, really, me. My country owing gratitude to te same US for liberating us from the Germans like 60 years ago. And still we go to war together with the States. We went to Korea (only lost like 1,500 men), we went to Irak together and lost a few hundred. And yes we also went to Afghanistan. Lost only 55 people. Including our Supreme Commander's son.

Not telling about the 5,000 in Indonesia and the 10,000 in New Guynea. Thank you very much.

PS: Now on how it works here. Went to my Lodge. Had me a drink or two to many. Got into a police "fuke". Somehow, I blew the whistle, but ... I was supposed to be sober. Really? Yeah, that's what the device said ...

"So, sir, please continue" the police man told me. And off I went.

... Only to be in another police check like 10 miles away. A young (very young) police woman (girl?) told me to blow the abv-checking device again. I told her I did just that like 10 miles ago ... and for sure there would be some guarantee on that, now, wouldn't there? She had to ask her officer in charge.

And since I was blocking pretty much the whole highe way by then ... another officer waved me to get going ...

Your not alone there Odin. My wife & I used to visit canada a couple times a yr. The Canadians were always very nice. The U.S. border guys were always dickheads, and we live here !

Land of the free, yea right. They make it such a hassle to do anything at all that half the time poeple just give up. Need a permit for this, Registration for that, gotta take a course for the other thing. All with fees of course. It's a joke. A very bad one i might add. I've quit fishing, snowmobileing, & visiting canada just because i'm tired of paying our government for the right to do so. It's such a shakedown.

We've finally made it to my brother's in Wyoming, and rotten weather as well. Interstate was shut down to truckers due to high winds, finaly got out of the wind and it started snowin, and me in a two wheel PU with less than ideal tires, the rear end kept wantin to pass the front end.

Anyway, thinkin back those Kansas cops sure were dumb MFs, they never did figure out whay to do, they knew something was wrong but didn't know what. Mostly they're loookin for dope, I fit into a nice little profile they had put together, out a state, covered PU, etc.

Thx guys. I think we finally found a facility our dad finds acceptable. Besides the Parkinson's and the dementia he is such a jerk. Between the two of us we've spent a few thousand bucks, drove about 2500 miles, and he doesn't appreciate any of it, but he's always been that way. It has emotionally drained both of us. If we can convince him this is where he needs to be we still need to drive back down to Denver and pack up the stuff he'll need, cloths, furniture, etc. Funny thing though, the old fart does like my whisky, but he sure as hell won't say it.

We finally got Dad into a facility in South Dakota about 20 minutes from my brother's ranch. It's a small place, just 18 rooms, so maybe he'll be ok, he doesn't do well around people. Yesterday at dinner, after we got him moved in, one of the female residents came over and put her hand on his shoulder and said she was glad my dad was there. My brother and I were like "oh no!?" Well he choked on his food, almost fell out of the chair, scared the poor lady to death!

As much as I don't like my dad I still couldn't help feel so hurt and lonely for him. There is no one there for him except for the two sons he walked away from 45 years ago, no one, no friends, no one. It also makes me realize how wonderfully fortunate I am to have a great little brother for a friend, a wonderful daughter who is the light of my life, and the close friends I have had over many years.

This has been such an emotionally draining experience for my brother and I. I'm really glad those Kansas cops were stupid enough to let me keep my booze!
