I'm amazed this thread made it past the second post. It's a fixin' to get locked I do reckon....

Good point Astro,
Large scale plates with dozens and dozens of bubble caps would likely be much easier to measure several types of efficiencies.
3 to 5 plate hobby sized rigs with a lowly hand full of bubble caps gets much harder for the average joe. Especially with the budget constraints most regular hobbyists are saddled with. Side by side is really the only way for most of us to truly know.
Unless the builder has made a blatant error, most of the bubblers inspired by Olddog's first build are going to do really well compared to an old school potstill....if thats what yer looking for.
Betcha Olddog remembers the few that said the small scale design would perform poorly...Just a short while ago,,,2" was the marques material in use...and just months ago folks with years of experience where asking,,,,,,,,"wuts a depglegmater?" I have read through some very old posts and what was once a sophisticated topic is now quite common knowledge and more easily exploited by newer members within the community....We have flute operators here that have never once built a plain jane potstill or tasted regular old pots tilled likker.
Stilling can be as complicated as you wanna make it. But distillation is in fact so simple that it is inevitable. Distillation is one of the great natural engines.
Don't matter what ya think about the pedigree round here. The bubblers started here. They were nurtured and encouraged here while other forums were stumbling and bumbling in a state of self induced confusion regarding what to do about this design that only seemed to be confusing the experts of the day. Those being the ones that had an opinion but never built, operated or consumed any of the product..
Fortunately, more operators and builders with experience were able to push the credibility of this concept forward. In the mean time there is the original designer likely sipping and smiling like the cat that swallowed the canary.

To get back to the original topic ... I found a manufacturer in China that produces pots for a company here in the U.S. No big deal other than the fact that the U.S. company claims to build them when, in fact, they purchase them from overseas. I also found that it is cheaper to buy them by 10, and have them sent via Sea Freight.
Again, not a big deal, but I feel, as the original poster, that this thread has gotten away from the original topic.

I don't know of anybody that sells these that claims they build them. They have stated they do get them from overseas. So I'm not real sure who you speak of?
