Re: favorite mixed drink
my two go twos have been two shots of UJSM over some ice cubes, sometimes a splash of ginger ale or mint julip style, but currently i mixed some lighter flavored UJSM with some powdered lemon aid mix and it is pretty tasty. I can't quite understand why.

Caipiríssima
The original drink is Caipirinha and made with Cachaça (sugar cane juice rum) and is regarded as the National Brazilian drink. I make some decent white rum on a Boka column and I love to use it for Caipirissima's
Wash 1 lime and cut lengthwise into 4 slices.
Cut the center pith off each slice and discard, chop the 4 quarters into 8ths, drop them all into a collins glass.
Add 1 tsp of sugar.
Muddle with a barmans muddler, (a section of 1" maple dowel works well). Crush it up good to squeeze the lime oil out of the zest and the juice will disolve the sugar.
Fill glass to the top with crushed ice.
Add good white rum to fill, 2 to 3 oz., stir slightly.
Enjoy. Very citrusy and somewhat tart. If you don't like it so tart add more sugar. It's a little like Mojito without the mint, stronger with more lime.
One of the best aspects of this drink is when the glass is empty all the fruit has absorbed a lot of rum so I crush it a bit with the remaining ice to squeeze out some juice and rum then add Coke. Instant Cuba Libra for seconds!
I'm going to buy some Cachaça so I can experience the original drink.

Re: favorite mixed drink
I like martinis. Can't get enough of them. Especially with a simple lumpfish caviar or oysters. My own variation stands as a favorite:
Gin (Mild, vapor infused e.g. bombay), 2 Measures
Gin (Strong like Tanqeray No. 10, heavy on juniper), 2 Measures
Vodka, Neutral as possible, 1 Measure
Vodka, Ginger infused, 1/2 Measure
Noily Prat, 1/2
Stir vigorously with crushed ice for seven seconds. Strain into a chilled martini glass which has been sprayed with an orange twist. Garnish with a flat orange peel (No pith, ala vesper) and a bocconcini and rosemary stuffed ponentine.

The still is not a liar. Mash and ferment quality is 99.9% of your performance.

4 Horsemen...
1 part Goldschlager
1 part Jaegermeister
1 part 151 rum
1 part Rumple Minze
(I use my own cinnamon, and peppermint-flavored vodkas, and my own rum, as well- but the Jaegermeister is pretty cheap locally, and VERY hard to copy)
Pour over the back of a spoon, to layer each ingredient- Rumple minze is on the bottom of the glass as a "palate cleanser".

I have an orange tree and a tangerine tree so about this time of year they are picked and juiced. My #1 fav is a 12oz insulated glass ( holds the cold) of Tangerine juice with a shot of XXX Birdwatcher's. When the T juice is gone I start on the OJ but there is usually so much of it that I have to freeze a few gallons.

Re: favorite mixed drink
The cold weather here in the PNW has served to spawn a new mixed drink for me, a little ice 1 part from jar #3 and 1 part from jar #4 (Birdwatchers recipe) and down the hatch. Opens your eyes, clears your nose and kills worms. WOW
Sometimes I wonder why is that Frisbee getting bigger......and then it hits me.

Re: favorite mixed drink
My favorite summer drink is a hard fruit tea.
Take a glass of strong neutral (I use 150 proof), mix with lemonade, pineapple juice, and any other fruit juices you'd like to include (I usually just use lemonade) until it's diluted to about 90 proof. Add some frozen berries and some tea bags in a glass pitcher with plastic wrap on top, let it sit in the sun for about 8 hours and bring it inside and refrigerate. I then blend it with ice and garnish with a lemon. Add sugar as necessary, but I prefer to add more lemonade.
Also goes great with light rums and grenadine to add some flair.

So far I like my Birdwatcher's spirits in Welches White Grape Juice. Pretty tasty and easy quick.

Dark rum on ice, or dark rum and seven.
dark rum and dr pepper is also a good drop for me.
I usually buy Blask seal, Cruzan gold or Screech
A decent rye whiskey on ice helps at times.

One for me... get a green coconut, chop a hole in the top... put desired amount of white rum in it and squeeze a lime in behind it.... heavenly!

Re: favorite mixed drink
I've had a fresh coconut with the top chopped off and rum added. While I was in Mombasa Kenya. For someone that hates coconut. I found it very refreshing.
Thanks now I want one. And I ain't nowhere near a coconut palm.

Re: favorite mixed drink
General way I make drinks is to throw in some rocks and fill it up with rum (or whatever) till the ice starts to float a bit, then top off with ginger (or whatever)... I'd say that works out to about 1 part rum 2 parts beer for that drink?

Re: favorite mixed drink
I go through phases. Have a cupboard full of stuff but have been leaning heavily on gimlets lately. A real gimlet is simply 1/2 Roses Lime to 1/2 Gin (or Vodka). But a corn or feed liquor works really well too!

Re: favorite mixed drink
I've been real into chasers lately, to be honest. Side-by-side a glass of fine liquor and a glass of wine or fruit juice (a good vodka and a strawberry lemonade...mmmm) go together perfectly, and you can change the strength of the drink with every sip. A small sip of liquor and a gulp of juice or vice versa. I feel like it goes down a little smoother while being stronger too.
Maybe it's just me though

Re: favorite mixed drink
knob creek old fashioned. real simple.
one sugar cube, half a shot of water, two dashes bitters, muddle till the sugar dissolves. put into a shaker with a crap ton of ice. one full shot of burbon.
shake like hell till it's crazy cold. pour in a chilled glass with three big huge ice cubes. zest some orange peel into it, drop in the thin peel, stir and enjoy!
