Building a bar
I have a rec room that is 30' x30' with a full kitchen and fireplace. My wife and I spend a lot of time downstairs in the rec room and she likes the idea of having a bar. My plan is to build a bar as an island and remodel the whole room. My neighbor has decided to move and wants to sell me a lot of his toys from his basement. His step father owned a bar and had a lot of equipment that my neighbor inherited. My problem is my wife would like some of the items but doesn't want to turn the rec room into a tavern atmosphere. Some of the items he has are very rare. Here is a list.
Pool table (tavern size with the coin operation taken out)
Pinball machine
Jukebox (plays CD)
Ms. Pac man machine
Neon signs
Light beer
Oly (from the 50's)
Heidelberg
Michelson dry
Signs that light up
Tangueray
Hamms
Coors (2)
Rainier
Everything individually he wants $4250 total (he has it broken down for me)
If I take all of it he will sell it to me for 25% off or $3187.50
I am probably going to buy the jukebox and maybe the pool table as it is in better shape than mine. I would love the signs but that is the part my wife really doesn't want. The Olympia beer and rainier beer are no longer made or bottled in Washington and are classics. I priced the oly sign on eBay and they are asking between $250 and $340 he is asking $200 so I don't think he is over pricing the items.
My question is if I bought the whole lot would anyone else from the NW be interested in some of the items?

Gentleman's club maybe a better feel than old school game room.. Yer gonna have to imploy some smart visual finishes to help her get past the games. Thats what you get for marrying a glamor girl

Re: Building a bar
One of my mates has a juke and an old pinball.
Another mate has a sit down space invaders machine.
They all got hammered for 3 months, then from then they just gather dust.
Great fun when they first arrive, but the can turn into white elephants. You could always flip them when you are sick of them.
I like the old neon signs, but if your Mrs dosn't like them, you might have to be creative. Something like a "no girls allowed" sign on the door.
I often kick the Mrs out of the man cave for fear of "girly germs".
She always seems to find a way back in though. Maybe I need some bouncers on the door.

Re: Building a bar
I'd be interested. What is the pinball machine? Also
I'd be into the Hamms and Tanquerey signs. Hamms was Dad's brand and I like a Tanquerey myself. Cd or vinyl juke?
My uncle had a great "undersea" theme basement bar back when my parents and their friends did the cocktail partying regularly. People really knew how to entertain back in the day...if those walls could talk. If I had the space I'd do a class 50's bar in miniature scale. Lots of chrome and leather, etc. I have quite a few vintage bar items, mainly glassware, decanters and bar tools. Just picked up this sign:

And this fella...remember him?

yes I am a hoarder

Re: Building a bar
Put the signs on the garage wall. My brother has the hole back wall of his garage covered in neon beer signs. He opens the door and you can see them all.

Re: Building a bar
Too bad shipping would double the price and it's a two day drive for me to get up and another two days to get back. Otherwise I'd ask to see pics of the signs but IMHO I probably woulldn't make the trip to pick any of it up. Sounds like you are going to have a really nice rec room setup someday.
