First off, Hello all. This is such an amazing site, I will be using it a lot as I build my first still. Will be going with the Boka
I seem to fail at the search option. I have tired going back many pages for my answer but could find a clear one.
I herd a myth about copper poisoning but saw a good post about how its the total opposite for stilling. But my question is about types of copper tubing. I have seen
two types mentioned in fourms so far, Type L, and one other. I there a bad or good type ? , I had planned on just hitting homedepot for my tubing.
I also do have some old copper tubing on property thats old, 10years least, useable ?
So my other question for both new and old copper is there a procedure for initially cleaning all the copper
prior to first still use.
Before I get to invested. I intend to make rye whisky, is Boka the proper or atleast doable still design. I'll search this up on forum but thought id toss it in anyway

Re: Simple copper questions
copper and sulphates (in the wash/mash) combine and drop back into the boiler so none or little will come over unless you really screw up.
copper pipe as used for water is 99% copper.
your used pipe will be good if it will clean up.

Here this thread. And many others that should be required reading can be found in the new distiller reading lounge.

Oh and if your having problems figuring out the HD search tool. Try the Google search tool. It will pop up a string in the search box. Leave it there and add what you are searching for on the end of it.
Oh oh and welcome aboard. You should stop by the welcome center and give us a proper introduction.

A boka is a fine machine for making neutral (vodka) spirits. Not so much for making rye whiskey. For that a simple pot still is what you want.Draxxe wrote:Before I get to invested.
