The not a still build thread.

Post by Prairiepiss »

Just thought we could have a thread to post builds other them stillin equipment. Stuff your proud of and would like others on the forum to see it.

I will start it off with my first cigar box guitar. Started it yesterday finished it today. Pretty fun little project. The youngest helped me. And he is getting fired up to build his own.
I built this one as a test to see how it would go. I've been collecting other boxes to make different ones. It's basically a 3 string fretless acoustic. I installed a piezo in it for a pickup so I could use an amp if I wanted to. Now comes tje hard part. Learning how to play it.

I make a lot of stuff with leather, been doin it for years. One thing I do a lot is make knife sheaths. I sorta collect knives and they often come with lousy sheaths, so I just make my own.

Nice work BigR. Ever thought about making your own knives?

Empty. I love trains. I've always wanted to build a nice set. I was really interested in G scale when I had a nice garden with a koi pond.

Ya, Man what a lot of work though. The bottom pick is two. One is a K-Bar I found in a burned out house and refurbished. The other is one I made out of an old file, just foolin around. I really need more equipment to do it right.

Knife making is another one of those hobbies I would love to get into. But time and funding tells me otherwise.

The cigar guitar is seriously cool. I have a bunch of guitars hanging in the house and love playing them. That would be a cool addition. Hmmm.

I like to build rifles. The first pic below are three rifles I built from 1900'ish Australian Martini Cadet rifles. These three rifles are featured in the current issue of Precision Shooting.

I also like Mauser and consider them the finest bolt action built. I usually build a rifle every summer; the rifle below in 6.5 x 55 was built last summer for last year deer season. The rifle made 6 one shot kills.

Just got another box that is going to make a really cool electric 6 string. Will need to refine my building skills before I tackle it.

Yes I want to build a banjo. I want to use an old Chevy hubcap to do it with though. Not a cigar box. See some really cool ones from cookie tins and such.

Hey PP...I have been building those cigar box guitars for about 7 years now...also make dulcimers and recently a one string diddley bow. The other thing I like making is bows...I have been a traditional archer for almost 20 years and have made numerous wooden bows, especially traditional English style long bows...lately I have been experimenting with PVC Mongolian horse bows...I will se about posting some pictures.

Cool. 7 years wow. Would love to see some pics. I would love to make a nice recurve. I had a nice one at one time. I think it got lost with a bunch of other stuff when I moved back up here from Arkansas.

There's just not enough time for all these damn hobbies.
