Blending

Post by Ronero »

I took a sample of my shine (Odin´s cornflakes whisky recipe), I've mixed it with a bit of Johnnie Walker Red Label and taste very nice. I am thinking in blend my shine with portions of single malt or a bourbon. Any advice in blending?

Make your own single malt or bourbon.

Not to hijack, but I read where they use corn whisky to blend the scotch with on one web page. I always thought it was 100% barley whisky no matter if it's single malt or blended.

Anybody know for sure?

I was under the (possibly false) impression that they blend with neutral for any blended spirit.

While talking about blending and "experimentation", tread lightly. I recently infused pomergranite seeds with the rum I made. Ruined a 5th of good tasting rum. Sometimes it's best to stick to the tried and true.

I've been blending apple pie and oaked sweet feed 50/50. I prefer it to either one by itself. I may try oaking some apple pie to see what that's like.

Johnnie Walker red label is the reason i spent years drinkin beer. shared a bottle with a mate in my teens and grew up thinkin all whiskies tasted that bad. wasn't till i tasted bourbon in my later years that i changed my mind.
