Valved Liebig

Newbie getiing ready to do my build, 50 L keg, 36" liebig w/45gal barrel and sump pump, My question is , will I need to have a valve on the input /output water lines or both/none ?, My pump has a 1-1/4" outlet so it will have lots of flow , just no pressure- centrifugal, Thanks,

I would not put a valve on either side in / out. You may find that the pump doesn't push as much water through the liebig as you thought it would.

You might want to also put a splitter on the sump pump depending on gpm to keep from dead heading it.

Yeah a splitter is handy, I have one on my setup very similar to yours oilguy, I put a valve on mine to, just for ease, my tanks.outside the shed, so a.valve inside is.handy.

A trick I learned is to just use a water spray nozzle like the one below as you can adjust waterflow without the need of valves. It screws on to your lines the same as a garden hose would and you can dial in your restriction.

pfshine, I am not sure that I follow, "a splitter", Do you mean like a" Y" that has 1 valve on each outlet ?
What would you do with the other outlet?

i thank he is referring to a bypass many pumps do not like to be restricted and will over heat if done so,so instead of a valve to restrict use one as a return.this "dumps" unneeded water back to tank .

Something as simple as a 1/2" tee on the line is all that's needed.

IMO, a valve on the output of your liebig is prudent if you have varying seasonal cooling water temps. In winter when my barrel is 50F I don't need as much flow as when the water starts off at 80F in the summer. With a valve on the output you can insure the liebig is alway full and adjust flow for a tempeture gradient if desired.

The reason i suggested a splitter is you can put a little restriction on the side your not using to keep flow to your condensor and still not dead head the pump. Its like a double valved wye that fits on a 3/4 mip.
