Old still lead detection

Post by Halfbaked »

A buddy of mine came across an old pot still and worm that he told me about the other day. I have not seen it but I know the previous owner and it has not been used in a long time. I told him not to use it because I am thinking that it has been put together with lead solder. Does any one know a way to test it? If it is, can it be unsoldered and cleaned and re soldered or is it just a piece to look at now?

Lead test kit from Lowes or home depot. Depending it the still. It may it may not worth the effort. And you may or may not be able to remove the lead. Without knowing exactly what you have. It's hard to say.

Thanks Piss. I don't know what I am dealing with either. I gotta find it at Lowes and then maybe he will let me see it. If I get to see it I will snap a pic and put it on here.

If it got age to it it should have a fair size collar.
Shine your lite on the inside an look for solder.
If the Smith noed what he was doin there shouldn't
be none. Ain't no way for the worm to have inside
aceptin where it connects to the cap or to doublein
keg. How do the inside of the cap look. Was it double
crimped . How bout the Beek. More as well figure it
lead but if it on the outside there ain't no problem.
how is the bottom joined. Was it sniped or rolled
round. If the was worth a worth a dern there shouldn't
be much to start with

so IM Tole

I don't know how serious he was about firing it up but I was serious about firing it up. I have not got to see it but if/when I do I will take pics and peek inside.
