Post by faste »

I bought some of the 1lb packs of the enzymes from mile high last year, and for the life of me can't find the directions anywhere, tried on line too. I tried going from memory lol that was a flop. seams like optimal ph and temp for ba was 6 and 160f And 4 and 140 for the ga ? Thnks for any help

Here are the manufacturer's recommendations:

BA-100 Alpha-amylase:
  • temp: 55 – 75º C
  • pH: 4.5 – 7.0
  • dosing: 0.6 – 1.2 g/lb

GA-100 Glucoamylase:
  • temp: 55 – 60º C
  • pH: 2.8 – 5.5
  • dosing: 0.6 – 1.0 g
Keep in mind that the "optimum" temp range is basically from 90% (of max) activity on the low side, and 80% on the high side (after temp denaturing begins). So you might want to shoot for a degree or two above the median temp if you're going to hold temps for any length of time ... that way you'll all below the denaturing temp as things cool a bit. pH is a tad different ... I believe the range is from 80% to 80% of max ... so I just try to adjust to the midpoint.

Also the dosing requirements are going to depend on a lot of things ... including how fresh your powder is. I lost several washes due to stale GA. In any case, you might want to start on the high end and work down once you know what you're dealing with.

The next time you get enzymes, you might want to consider the liquid HTL alpha. I'm not sure what your process is, but you can go much higher with the temps with the liquid HTL alpha (it's from a different organism ... B. licheniformis. BA-100 is B. subtillis so you have to keep the temps lower).
