Does it make any sense?

Post by Digital_Plasma »

Hi HD's. I'm planning a new boka build. I've just gotten almost 13' of 2" copper pipe dirt cheap and wanted make an upgrade. I have a 6" double wound coil condenser made from 1/4" copper tube that I wanted to include in the new design. But I was wondering if it would make any sense putting a small vertical shotgun condenser/dephlegmator just after the plates and before the coil condenser? I've made a simple drawing (working, so I don't have time for computer models). I hope it makes sense:

My drawing skill accompanied with my sucky camera give you what I show here.
The dephlegmator/shotgun is planned to be 10"x2" with 5 3/8" tubes.

+1, that designed dephlagmater is better suited on a CM still and really not necessary with what you have as the coil should give you 100% reflux. Make sure you vent the top during your build.

+1 rock

Would like to add. Not sure what size tubing you are thinking about for a shotgun. But I wouldn't use anything smaller then 1/2" for the vapor tubes in a shotgun. Anything smaller wouldn't have the room for returning reflux and rising vapors.

You can use properly sized shotgun condenser instead of coil. But there is no advantages to mix two condensers.

Okey I'll just stick with the coil condenser then. Just thought that I could throw more heat at it and get faster output with a dephlegmator/vertical shotgun. The tube sizes was to be 3/8", but I understand that 1/2" is more appropriate.
Thanks for the "faster than a bullet" replies. ;)

I think I'm just hooked on the idea that a normal boka I just too "easy" a job and wanted to do more. Problem is just that to make something like a functional flute I need at least 3" dia. pipe, and that is VERY hard to come by here. Not to mention expensive! I could go stainless, but I know of no one that can weld stainless and I don't have the equipment myself.

You thinking something like a CM with a jacketed reflux condenser?

I'm not sure what you mean about a jacketed reflux condenser?. Since you said you have heaps of 2" you could do a 2" column, 2" deflag, 2" shot gun. That would keep you busy and not as easy as a bok build like you say.

I think I misunderstood you, googe. But I'm thinking about doing a deflag. And I'm a bit in love with Prairiepiss' Fu Man! I might go in that direction...
