Cinnamon extract bad!!

Sugar, and all about sugar washes. Where the primary ingredient is sugar, and other things are just used as nutrients.

Cinnamon extract bad!!

Post by Edailey002 »

Just thought I'd throw this out there and ask a question too.
So, I've not been able to run my still for about 6 months now and will be firing it back up soon. The last run I did I made 2 gallons of apple pie for my dad because I was getting ready to move. I thought I would expedite things a little and used some cinnamon essential oil rather than telling him here you go now wait a couple months for the cinnamon sticks to release their flavor. Worst idea ever!!! I put 4 drops, let me say that again. 4 DROPS per quart of 75% neutral before adding it to the apple pie recipe that I use.
The next day I decided to sample the finished product and holly crap. I took what could have been 2 gallons of my normal good smooth non Hangover inducing likker and produced cinnamon dog shit. Now , if you like hot damn or aftershock you woulda loved this. As for me I hate it.
Fast forward 6 or 7 months to today. I was out in the garage getting everything clean and ready to operate again and came across my epic failure. Of course, I decided to pop the lid and give it another try. It has mellowed out some and has some apple pie flavor to it but the cinnamon smell alone will still knock you down.
That was for everyone to make fun of me and get a laugh because it was funny.
My question is: if I run it through the still with my next batch do you think the cinnamon will stay behind or will it carry over. If it will carry over and I figure it will do y'all think it would dilute down enough to just use it in some more apple pie and it not be noticeable. If the answer to both questions are " throw that shit away " which is what my dad said then that's what I'll do.
Thanks in advance and I hope everyone gets a giggle at my mistake.

I reckon it will carry over. Experiment with small samples to find out how much neutral it takes to knock the flavor down to drinkable.

I'm just guessing on this one.

Dilute it with enough water to make a full still charge and run it again.

Yeah I use that with sweet feed whiskey for a faux fireball. 5 drops per half gallon and use homemade caramel to sweeten. Cut to 40% and enjoy!
No, officer, I wasn't distilling alcohol! It was probably that guy!

What did you use for cinnamon oil. You said cinnamon essential oil? Essential oils are generally not for flavoring. I've tried to make cinnamon oil by soaking cinnamon sticks in EVOO extra virgin olive oil. As many instruct to do on the interwebs. But it turned out to be shit. Nothing like my firepiss. And I have ditched that idea. It's still in the basement. But won't be used for anything for consumption.

This is the stuff that you'd use to flavor hard candy or the such. You can buy it at the health food store but it's kinda pricy. It goes for $30.00 an ounce but it should go a really really long way. I'd say that one drop per quart would probably be sufficient now that I know. Also, it needs to be mixed in to higher proof spirits to be soluable. If you like a strong cinnamon flavored likker then use two drops but not sure if go beyond that.

Ok yes that stuff is really potent. As a kid I would use one drop to flavor like 500 toothpicks. And they would set you on fire. It's some strong stuff.
