Did you get this to work Humble? I am still making pieces for my new setup. Had the flu last week and now the starter went out in my wife's car. Delays delays. Like I don't drag my feet enough. But since I am going modular, I wanted to make a pot head to clamp on. I could also use a spare section of 3" to make one of these to clamp to the top of my column, put the pot still head on it and have a cm to play with. I was even thinking of making a 3 foot long 2" version of this for a product condenser in all SS. I have the pieces.

There was another way to prevent the pooling, use a "Y".

Any way you do this you still have to cap the tails of the coil.

Remember a shotgun deflag doesn't fill the space 100% and still achieves total reflux.

Also, the CSST coil doesn't have to be a helix coil, it can be a pancake coil.

Looks like you are not planning to move the coil..so it's not a CCVM.
You want to run it as a CM and regulate the cooling flow with that valve on the inlet side to the condenser?
Nice work by the way..

Some more progress. I decided to go out the side as suggested by Hound Dog. It was a bit tricky but I got there. It was interesting trying to figure out the right sequence of alignment, insertion, and soldering different parts.

I soldered the top exit tube in place after inserting from the outside.

Soldered up including top ferrule. Tested water tight afterwards.

As I'm looking at it, again, the only disadvantage here is height. It's pretty tall, like 15".

OK blueduck updated on his still, here is an update on this csst build. I finished it up using push to connect tubing and fittings from mcmaster. It ran great. I need to get better at running a plated still but that's beside the point. I think this could have been significantly shorter...there's at least 48" coiled up in there. Pretty sure you could get by with less and have less overall height as well. I don't look forward to modifying it, it was a pain to put together. But then I imaging a standard shotgun dephleg would be the same.

Thanks all. Nothing too amazing here, mostly bought parts. Googe I don't know how that blue is there, it's something to do with reflections or the camera. It's actually quite dark in there, have to use a flashlight to see much. Dad I have done two runs, but the first one that "mattered" was all corn, and I ran it too hot and smeared the crap out of it. I am used to keeping reflux cooling output at a certain temp. Having never run a cm I didn't quite grasp the dynamic so I was all over the place. It is a harder type still to run but that's the fun of it isn't it?

Looking great Humbledore! I'm sure with a few runs you'll get the kinks worked out of operating it.
