Christmas Build
Well I think that the build will go way past Christmas but most of the parts are Christmas presents to myself. ( Sounded like good reasoning to the soh ) Thinking about a 4" flute. Spent a little time online ordering parts and the first box of shinny stainless showed up today

I'll be following along, Zin. Looks like you've got some 4s, some 3s and some 2s there?
Trying to make it real compared to what?

Yup, planning on a modular 4" plated column, 2" - long sweep 180 to a 3" shotgun. Should be a fun build!!Badmotivator wrote:I'll be following along, Zin. Looks like you've got some 4s, some 3s and some 2s there?

Re: Christmas Build
Not sure if I want to use these for 1 1/2" sight glasses or go with larger tri clover ones

Still undecided on the glass holders, going with a 2" tri clamp would be easy but I kind of like the look of the trap adapter - they are a little more streamline and copperDeerhunter wrote:what fitting you using for the sight glasses?

Re: Christmas Build
Came home tonight to a couple more packages - it still feels like Christmas
First one from McMaster - 1 3/4" boro sight glass, they are a perfect fit on the trap adapters - smaller than using 2" tri clover fittings but I like the more streamline look of them.
Next big box - Thank-you Kentucky shiner!
a shiny 3 to 4 adapter to fit my keg and a 3' piece of 4"
And a boring little box with a pound of Harris solder and flux - I think that those big tubes are going to eat up a lot of solder.

Started work on the sight glass holders:
made this jig
needs a little finish work, but not bad for the first cut

That sure is a whole bunch of shiny stainless. Are you going to go modular with your column? Looking forward to watching the build.

Supply house dot com - search for 1-1/2" Copper DWV Fitting Trap Adapter (FTG x Slip Joint) less than $9 apiece and:
McMaster car for Heat-Resistant Borosilicate Glass, 1-3/4" Diameter, 3/16" Thick, also less than $9 each

Yes 5 separate removable plate assemblies is the plan.

Love the build so far! Debating on going with sight glass like yours or tri-clamp 2". I was originally going to go with tri-clamp, but now you have me thinking more because yours also looks nice. Do you know if those parts can be had for 2" sight glass?

Re: Christmas Build
Yea I'm still debating on what style to use, the largest size trap adapter is the 1 1/2", tri clamps will give a larger sight glass at the sacrifice of a bazillion more tri clamp fittings. My build as it is has many and just trying to break it up with a few lessmoosemilk wrote:Love the build so far! Debating on going with sight glass like yours or tri-clamp 2". Not to mention the tri-clamp route costs a bazillion more dollars.

Nice work, man. She's going to be beautiful.
I agree, the stainless ferrules are striking.

I picked up an immaculate 51" length of 4" type L copper pipe . . . at scrap copper prices. Best thing to do . . . make friends with the guys at the local scrap yard. Drop by once a week. My length cost me less than $50 Cdn. Hell, if you trust the guy, bring him a pint. The world still does run a lot on the "who you know not what you know" way of thinking. At least in my parts!rgreen2002 wrote:Oldvine Zin wrote:I stumbled upon an 8' long 3" copper tube at almost scrap price part of that will be my shotgun condenser
