Slow progress

On the right is a second generation uj left is corn / wheat I'm thinking I need to start mashing on a larger scale

Time for a brute trashcan! Same size footprint but you get three still charges @ 10 gallons each. Check out "trashcan fermenter" on the hd google.

a can will be much easier to ferment, clean, rack , pour ect than using those water jugs with grains in them.

I'd love a couple of those for low wines between strip and spirit run.

I have no idea what US name is but in Europe we use 5 gallon or larger fermentation vessels that can be either a bucket with lid or a similar plastic vessel to your carboys but with a much wider neck.

I strip my low wines into glass carboys . My fermentors are 44 gallon Brute trash cans on wheeled platforms for mobility . I've had issues with aquarium heaters . Either going to move to heat tape or water jackets for aquarium heaters . Reflectix is also a great benefit .

And its a wash not mash. A mash you cook(sorta) and use enzymes to convert the starch to sugars.

I used enzymes the amylase ones on the corn with boiling water at the very start of them and 4# sugar
