Re: Shrimping and fishing
I would love to have some of those salmon.
A buddy of mine and his brother, went on a salmon fishing trip in Alaska, he said they were taken out in a plane and dropped off for 5 days, the plane would return.
they said it was the worst 5 days they ever had, every time they caught a fish, a bear would come over and
mug them for the fish. tear the camp all to hell and pee on what they did not break
LOL...
I have been out in the Gulf of Mexico a few times deep sea fishing, catching red fish
when we see a shrimper, we pull up beside it, hold up a 12 pack of beer and point at the cooler
we did not speak the same language but a trade is made, prawns as long as your hand, caught a couple hours ago

Re: Shrimping and fishing
Just got back from an epic adventure into BC waters. Started with a bang when we decided to stop and try for Sockeye on the way to our destination. An hour later we had our limits and it was a hoot with as many as 5 on at once! Ended up hooking many Springs and some nice size Silvers to round out the trip. This fishing really has halted my Stillin but hope to get back at it this Winter.

Years ago, I used to get a call from a guy. "We're going to the Gulf tomorrow. How many pounds you want?"
He had a boat at Bayou La Batre. What he would bring me on Friday had been in the Gulf Thursday night.
Doing a cajun boil with corn potatoes and sausage with FRESH shrimp and cold beer. Oh yeah!

I'd be going to shoot a little craps.
If I won big, I'd go to Gallatoires.
If I won a little, I'd go to Napoleon House for a beer and a poboy.
If I lost, I guess I'd be looking for Takee Outee or a Lucky Dog.

I had a pretty good time in Alaska this year, brought home a few species of Salmon and some Halibut.
Here's one morning's effort (back to camp by breakfast).

Just got back from 4 days shrimping and island living. Limited on shrimp and had great weather, below are a few pictures to share some of the scenery from our island stay. Salmon fishing opened yesterday so I will have to get back out soon!

Good! I love this.
I just returned from SE Alaska with Salmon, Rock Fish, Halibut and Dungeoness Crab.
Fairly minor injuries this time, had to get some stitches.
All good, and I have the seafood as a reward!

Re: Shrimping and fishing
Yesterday I drove down to our condo on Hood Canal, didn’t realize the fish are hitting right out front. Left all my gear at home and am wondering if my wife would be to upset if I went out and bought more fishing gear. I keep a small 14’ aluminum boat here with a 5hp Honda outboard. I have 8+ fishing poles at home and 3 tackle boxes. Last night I counted 13 boats trolling in front of our dock.

Re: Shrimping and fishing
Spent the day fishing, no bites but at least we got some crab for dinner. Even though we caught zero fish it was a great day on the water and nice to get out for the first time this year with my fishing partner. His wife has cancer and with COVID we just haven’t been able to get together.

Impressive mountain. Here's my Rainier pics, taken Feb 2014, 2015. Still kicking myself for not doing one of the day hikes over the four straight years we visited Federal Way (Seattle).

On a clear day at some locations cruising, looking two different directions I can see both Mt. Baker and then looking south Mt. Rainier. It is definitely a beautiful part of the world we live in.

Re: Shrimping and fishing
We’ve been lucky enough to see a lot of this beautiful earth. And I’d say the Pacific Northwest is among the prettiest places on the planet. Just tonight, my wife and I commented that we needed to take our grandchildren to Friday Harbor. If we ever make it out that way, I would love to have the chance to buy you a drink.
Take care and thanks for all you do for this group.

Thanks GCB3, I can take you out through the islands so you can see just how beautiful it is. Hopefully this pandemic will end before next summer.

Thanks. I still can't believe I let the wife talk me into Pike's Market again instead of hiking Rainier. I was also lobbying for a trip up to Oso to see the landslide sight but got shot down on that too.
