Bubble plate section size to maintain throughput on 2" packed column

Hey all,

I currently have a 2" packed column and am playing with the idea of adding a bubble ball to it for experimentation as a tails trap.

By the nature of it's design a 2" bubble plate is going to have lower rate of vapor throughput compared to the column, I'm sure.

My question is, what size bubble plate is going to be appropriate to achieve the above, without restricting throughput to the above 2" column.

4" ?

3" seems potentially borderline / not enough?

Any larger than 4" I expect may be overkill?
