Hole size recomendations...

Distillate packaged in 1 quart wide mouth canning jars with Teflon liner on cap and normal ring/top.

Most threads acknowledge that a small amount of air exchange is required for the ageing process.

What is the general notion of hole size -- 1/64th inch or larger or ??

The idea would be to put hole in the Teflon cap liner and the lid itself -- probably offset by 90 degrees.

Any notions would be appreciated.

I just leave the lid a but loose. If you don't really crank it down there will be enough "leaks" to allow a bit of air exchange

I have several jars aging with PTFE disc's and the ring. I don't use the steel lid at all. Just leave the ring loose it will vent as temps rise and fall in the garage just fine.

I have about 3 gallons of UJSSM ageing in a 5 gallon Corney with the O-ring removed to allow air exchange.

I made cardboard (non corrugated) rings to replace the mason jar steel cap. The cardboard is not sealing the jar at all, but prevent too much air excange.
It breathe enough because the jars are in a closet, and when I open the door of the closet I can smell the whisky vapors aroma a little.

I've used a PTFE sheet with 4 pin holes in it, then the normal ring successfully. I used PTFE sheets that are about 4" square, don't trim them, and screw the lid down over the top.
