Hi everyone.
Completely new to distilling.
Years ago I made various types of beer/ale with various levels of success.
I work as a professional bar tender. I experiment with lots of various cocktails which as you can imagine costs a small fortune in base spirits.
I came across an advert for an AirStill and thought that sounds like a simple solution to my spirit needs. I live in a 2 bed apartment so I don't have much available space.
The advantage of the airstill is the small space it takes up, but that advantage is pointless if I can't make usable neutral spirit with it.
If I'm understanding things correctly neutral is what I need for gins & vodka. For the short term I don't imagine experimenting with whiskeys/bourbons but who knows if the bug bites

Welcome to the forum Jon.
You will get something loosely approaching a neutral spirit with that air still if you choose a recipe carefully and do multiple distillations adding water back to it each time.
But to make true neutral in any useable volume, you need a reflux column.
You've come to the right place anyway, so do plenty of reading and learning, and decide from there.
Either way, enjoy the forum.

Welcome and
. MM is correct. An air still will get you by, and maybe help you understand a few things. But like most, once you start you'll be upgrading to something more to your liking.
I drink so much now,on the back of my license it's a list of organs I need.
