Re: Just Post a Pick of your Rig
Here is my new Pot Still!
I have finished my vinegar cleaning run and sacrificial run now.
Waiting on my first wash to ferment, starting with Honey Bear Bourbon thanks to ShineonCrazyDiamond!
13 gallon boiler, 3" column packed with copper mesh (all sight glass cause why not see in there) going to 2" shotgun condenser to the proofing parrot.
I am going to be using my natural gas power burner to run and sink is right next to it in my outdoor kitchen.

I’ll see if I can find any. It’s just a coil of 3/8”/10mm copper in a 3” shell offset lm head.

Re: Just Post a Pick of your Rig
Is the genius of this design. Can go from 100-0% relux. The valves are tied together so that when one is full shut other is full open. I brlieve that minime was one of the first to come up with design

Re: Just Post a Pick of your Rig
So how do you run that thing? I get the concept of the split vapor path valves, one side is opening while the other is closing. The two different takeoffs is where my brain gets tied in knots thinking about how to operate the thing. The lm already give you the ability to go from 0-100% reflux so I’m not sure what the added complexity buys you. I’ll have to look for the OP on that type of rig to better understand it. Thanks for the reply.

Gate-Valves spun hard to left . It’s in LM mode .( also Full reflux mode for VM when Needle is closed )
Opening the needle valve a little for LM take-off .
Fully open needle and its a stripper .
Gate-Valves spun hard to the right . It is a pot still using the VM’s PC .All the vapour goes out the Takeoff port on the left .
Gate-Valves spun almost to the left but not fully closed . It is in VM mode . ( The needle valve needs to be closed)
By adjusting the gate-valves , the vapour is split , proportioning it between the Takeoff port and the Reflux Condenser …… a Vapour Management head .
Personally , I’d just ditch the LM needle valve and use it as a VM .
My recommended goto .

Only reason i put the lm on it is, I had the parts collecting dust. Doubt I’ll ever use it

Here she is, not seen is the Whiskey Helmet, her vinegar run is next weekend and sacrificial run will follow. Lots of work still to be done but making progress, she’s a 26gal Mile Hi 4” Column with dual 5500w heaters. I can wait to get started but taking it slow as I learn so much from all of you here.

I with I could post a pic of my father's rig. I can, but it would be too revelaling, he is still is alive but live up in North Europe where these thing are not ok. It served him well, no longer in use, but was "thief lended" by my younger brother who also made good use of it in student days. A piece of art. 2x distill for decent vodka. Saw what I saw, but to this day, all conversations about it with him are "hypothetical". I myself live in Spain where personal use is legal, still have got some pointers out of the old man.

Nice score for $150! Is that a 4' long shotgun condenser or a 2" Liebig? Either way, that should be some serious condensing power.squigglefunk wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2024 5:19 am snagged this setup a while back for $150 , looking forward to firing it up, the cleaning phase has been done.

OK. I'll stop disbelieving! That's some nice hardware. What's the little space rocket in the center? Fancy starting a thread to tell us a little about the genio? Jesse from StillIt had one at some point and promised to talk about it, then went quiet (which makes me think they took it back).

That is a continuous stripping still, it’s a 1.5kw version , ideal for stripping sugar washes , just pump the wash in, and about 40/50% stripped alcohol comes out and waste goes directly to the drain. This stripped alcohol goes in my Istill 50 for neutral alcohol.NormandieStill wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2024 8:36 amOK. I'll stop disbelieving! That's some nice hardware. I have the genio about 4 weeks now, so still learning, used it to distill 300 liters of fermented pears, that went great! Since it’s an oil bath heated , no scorching or burning, ideal for distilling solids.
Will do some distilling on the grain in the next few weeks, need to look for a 100 liter mash tun with agitator

That is the BEST SCORE I have ever seen. Hopefully at least one of those condensers is a shotgun.squigglefunk wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2024 5:19 am snagged this setup a while back for $150 , looking forward to firing it up, the cleaning phase has been done.

yah the one is a 1.5" x 4ft long liebig and the other is a 2" old school reflux head with copper pass thru cooling tubes, said it could hit some pretty good octane with that running but I doubt i'll use it much.Rusty Ole Bucket wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2024 8:09 am

nah no shotgun, I think the 4 ft 1.5" liebig will do me ok for now. I will see what kind of knock down power it has soon.Salt Must Flow wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2024 9:21 am
