A welcome, and a Newbie progress report.

Post by sevenel_mx »

Hey there guys.....and girls.

I'd like to say long time reader of the site but it has rather been short term, although quite in-depth!

I was recently pointed in the direction of home distilling by a workmate who is also a user of this forum. He basically talked me through the concepts throughout a few shifts and I was instantly hooked, straight home it was and this forum was at point of call. I have read a few articles from the parent site and every article in the "new distiller reading lounge" I have grasped all the basic concepts and designs now and am now ready to get into some action.
I have decided to make a LM keg based reflux system. I removed the core of a keg we had/cleaned so its all ready to go.

I originally wanted to create the column myself, not to save money (which I wouldn't) but rather to get that feeling of accomplishment. Although after visits to hardware stores today and seeing the inflating prices of copper in OZ I quickly changed my mind.

I came home and purchased one of these: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 907wt_1141

and also one of these: http://www.aussiebrewmakers.com.au/reta ... _item.html

Afew questions, would there be any objections towards this final setup?

Also how far up on the keg would you advise me to insert the element?

Oh as for more details I will be looking at using this wash: http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopi ... =14&t=6782

Any comments on my progress so far would be great. :)
Thanks in advance folks. Will be hearing more from me soon.

The ebay one I would leave alone. The other, I don't know about.
A sugestion. Go to the clasifieds on this board and see what there is and also
there is at least one and maybe more members whom make stills that live in
OZ Land. See what they might do for you.
Welcome to the site!

Unfortunately to late guys as I already purchased the still head when posted. Never the matter.

As abit more of an overview I should say that Im not going to be getting "fully" indepth with ways of production e.t.c

Im just want to start off slow and be able to produce some good quality alcohol. I know this still is not top of the range but it has worked out to be pretty cheap to assemble for me and should do a good enough job for what I want to get out of it.

If I decide to reach for further results later down the track I should be able to mod the system or just end up creating my own column like origionally planned

In the time being does anyone have any suggestions about what mods I could make to the column before I put it all together (just like taps e.t.c)

And can someone suggest a good cheap submersible pump?? I will be running the water source from another barrel.

Thanks again guys and thanks for the welcome.

If I was to buy a pump id git a utility pump.you can git one for about 50$ and up.can be obtained in 12vdc,24vdc,120vac,240vac.
once you have one you can use it for cooling or transferring wash.or even getting water from a branch.all with out lifting.
