Twister in Joplin, MO

Post by Smokehouse Shiner »

Sunday night a tornado ripped through the town of Joplin, Missouri leveling a path 1/2 mile wide and 6 miles long right through the middle of town. Last I heard the death toll was at 116 and many more still trapped in the rubble or unaccounted for. It flattened over 2000 buildings, residential and commercial. About 75% of the small city was destroyed. I have family in the area but none that I know of was injured. Search teams are going through the wreckage as the weather permits but more storms are slowing progress greatly, and they are calling for more severe weather in this area every day this week.

My thoughts are with everyone affected by this disaster especially those that might be spending this night buried under a fallen building. I know we have several members in southern MO and hope they are all well. Just WTF is going on in this world guys? Tornadoes, floods, droughts, earthquakes, volcanoes, fires, famine. Where does it end? :esad: There is shit going down all over the world and lately it has struck close to home for me. Damn close. My grandmother lives two towns over from Joplin.

Of course the Red Cross and several other organizations are taking donations of non-perishable food and basic hygene items as well as monetary donations for disaster relief. Help em out if you can. It'll be a long road ahead for those poor souls who lost everything and peace be with those who lost loved ones.

Got 2 nieces on the way up to stay with us now. No power and water at their house. They were lucky no damage some how. Damage all around them. One of our guys with my company down there lost it all. But his family is safe. Mother nature is beating the crap out of us this year?

I"m in the same state, not too far away! I don't have family there but one of my co-workers has family down there. She hasn't been able to leave there as she was visiting her family and her car is now destroyed

Been through some serious winds myself (several cyclones), including one that completely trashed most houses in the area, and killed a few folks, just like this twister did.

All the best to those who got hit, or lost loved ones in it.
Be safe.
Be discreet.
And have fun.

+1, the prediction of the end of the world was wrong but I can't remember in my lifetime so many disasters around the world in one year.

Storm are about to come down on my area again tonight. At least 3 dead in NW Arkansas from a rash of twisters last night and I believe some in Southern MO. Some 1500 people are still unaccounted for in Joplin. Ain't lookin good for the home team. Where yat Miss Jackie?
