Wow, this stuff works!
So, I run a batch of corn whiskey following Uncle jesse's recipe as best I knows how. Welp, I did something wrng because in the end I get something that is 49% Abv before cutting. I figured I would let that sit with a oak stick in it for a while until I got ready to make up a new batch. Well, I just stirred it up and took a whiff. My, but doesn't it smell good! And that after less than two weeks on the wood! I was afraid I wouldn't be able to drink this stuff, but looks like even my friends might like a nip or two. i plan to bring some over for father's Day and see what the old man thinks.

Nice feeling, isn't it?
But if I understand well, it was your first mash followin' UJ's method?
Wait for the second, the third... Smell and taste will increase incredibly.
If you follow this sour mash method, keepin' your stuff, mixin' the different distillations results, re-using backsets... You'll soon get a stuff you never drunk before!!!

Oh yes, that is how I made this stuff. It took me weeks just to get the 1 1/4 gallons I have now. I was sceptical at first because of it's "bready" smell. never smelled, or tasted whiskey like that before and I didn't like it. After starting to age it - and it is no where near done - I can see what people mean and how the process is supposed to work. I am starting another mash to add to this stuff so i have a full 3 gallons. I will probably age the whole thing a total of 6 months or so and then bottle it. What I need to do is probably stop collecting sooner to get a higher abv. I will let y'all know.Bujapat wrote:Nice feeling, isn't it?

I havw thought of upgrading. I like using a pot till. So, how does a bigger still solve these problems? I would like to get a bigger boiler if I had one that would hit the head the same way this one does so I don'thave to do any cutting or welding or crap like that. I would appreciate any help in that regard. Thanks.Rocky_Creek wrote:A bigger still solves many problems.
